Sage 1 Or Mini Griptilian, Which One Do You Think Is More Popular?

I own and carry both regularly.

As others have stated, the Sage 1 carries much more compactly and sits well in dress pants if you work in a business formal or business casual office. The wire clip and sleek profile, along with the great looking carbon fiber scales, make it a classy gents' knife. The ergonomics and large forward choil make the sage 1 a pleasure to handle. The FFG also makes it an outstanding slicer.

The minigrip is a good knife, its greatest point being the axis lock, but has a rather fat handle that feels like cheap plastic. The only major plus it has over the Sage 1 is that it is manufactured in the USA.

Personally, I'd take a Benchmade 940 over both.

I have got Mini Grip and like it a lot. And I have no intentions so far to try Sage: there are some knives (Spyderco included) which I will buy first for the same price or even a bit more...
P.S. Why not to compare Mini Grip and Delica: that will be more fair. Sage is nearly double pricewise: even the simplest version.

This. The Sage is a dressier knife, but it's still a work-horse (and I honestly like the ergos and thin-carry over the Grip), but at the end of the day - the mini-grip is well cheaper.

If you are doing some of the work you described in Post 10, then I'd personally get either a full-size Griptilian or a Para-2. I've used my Para-2 for roofing, carpet-cutting, backpacking/hiking, etc and it's a great beater knife that still maintains a thin profile in pants pockets. The Grip is slightly thicker, but actually offers more blade-edge (and more cutting edge in a shorter package).

If you're left-handed, I'd go with the Grip, but I'm such a Para-2 fanboy (my Para's routinely kick other higher-end knives out of my pocket) that I'd take it over the Grip (I'm a righty though).

First of all, I don't think popularity of the knife should matter to you for this decision. Popularity wise, you can't ignore price and production numbers, both of which the Mini Griptilian wins.

Like DaleFuller mentioned, a small fixed blade (I'm thinking CRKT Minimalist) could be a good option. But being set on a folder for use while wearing slacks, I would get the Sage. The Mini Grip is too bulky to carry in slacks for my preference.

I think it's worth looking into the Bone Collector Mini Griptilian if you really like the Mini Grip.

If price is not a consideration you can get a Ritter Grip and some Cuscadi or Wilkins scales and have a sweet little knife. I've got an M4 mini Ritter and some ranger green Wilkins scales and the knife looks and feels great. Really solid and I prefer the shape of the Ritter blade. Of course now it's about a $300 knife.

If you want to go cheaper semi-custom you can get a mini grip in 154CM for about $65 and some Cuscadi scales for about $100 I think.

Thanks again for chiming in everyone. After reading all the posts and considering the main reason of why I wanted one of these knives, I went ahead and just ordered the Sage 1. Most of its time will be in slacks and in an office environment.
I figure if I know I'm going to be using a knife on a day like mentioned on post #10 I could just bring one of my hard use folders that day, full size grip, para2 etc.

However in the event I find myself needing a harder use folder and only have the Sage1 I feel pretty confident it will stand up to the task.
I've spent the morning checking out some YouTube reviews of the sage. I have to admit, what I saw was pretty impressive! There was one youtuber carving up a hard piece of pine with the Sage and it passed with flying colors.

Another note to mention is the pocket clip. I like the low profile wire clip. Should I decide not to carry my mission wallet it would totally be doable to just rock the Sage clipped to my slacks. Would hardly stand out t all.
