Sage 2 lock fail

I just picked up a sage 2 in like new condition through a Reddit forum, carried it for about 2 weeks now, and just realized that if the blade is locked open and I push down on it by hand with medium force that the lock fails and blade swings closed.. I'm so bummed. I've been so in love with this knife until right now. I called spyderco and they said it's pretty rare, but it happens and to send it in for evaluation. Has anyone else had this problem that could elaborate?

I haven't had that problem, but you could just cut stuff with the knife and not press down on the back of the blade with medium force :P

Edit: I tried replicating your issue with mine and it didn't close. I'd send it in if you're worried about it!

Hahaa trust me I've considered leaving it be because realistically this knife will never be used hard enough for it to matter, but I'm just a nut with stuff like this and it will always bother me. It would be different if this were a $30 beater knife, but it's in perfect shape and I plan on carrying it for a very long time.. Looks like I'll be sending it in to spyderco. I just really don't want to not have it for a few weeks! I'm currently waiting to get a manix 2 LW back from spyderco for repair on a centering issue and it's driving me crazy haha.

You did the right thing by contacting Spyderco about it. To leave it as is, is just asking for your misfortune later on. If it's supposed to work, you should take steps to make sure it does work.

Does the Sage 2 have an overtravel stop on the lock bar? Sounds like the lock bar was bent out too far and doesn't have the proper tension to hold it against the tang.

I hear ya man. Even if it's never truly a functional problem for me using it for strictly light tasks, it's the principal that it doesn't work as it should, especially since it's essentially a brand new knife.

I've literally never heard of a Sage 2 failing. I'd definitely send it in to Spyderco. It should not fail under medium hand pressure!!!

Send it in bro!!! It might get worse with time!
Charlynn and the Spydie crew will hook you up!!

Definitely send it in. To go on my biased rant, this is part of the reason I dislike framelocks. If the geometry is only a bit off...

my sage 2 lock has never failed on me,was yours a new one in the box!or was it used with miles on it,you do no that folders do ware out after lots of use/in time.

He picked it up used. Don't want to project, but I'm curious if the old owner knew about that prob!!

I agree with sending it in. I had one and it was a very solid knife. No play and very good lock position. Spyderco should take care of you

Maybe the previous owner bent the lock at out too farsince there's no overtravel stop. I've never had a spyderco malfunction on me.

I bought it as used but LNIB, and it looks about right like it was never used. I called spyderco yesterday and they said it's very rare but it has happened.. As for the previous owner knowing it did that, I'm not sure.. Either he was hiding that fact or honestly didn't notice because it was never used. I'm at work already but I'll put some pics up later and maybe you guys could spot something off. Thanks for all the input.

I'm so bummed because this knife is beautiful and I really didn't want to have to send it in and be without it for a few weeks, but it's looking like my only option here. Thank God I just got a new zt this week to hold me over lol.
