Sage and Sebenza

Ive got a Sage 2 and 4 sebs. They arent even in the same class. I dont

think it a fair comparison at all. I know with a CRK you get what you pay

for...a lot of quality and precision IMO.

I have a large sebbie and a sage 2. I carry the Sage 2 more, because it's cheaper, lighter and has a nice deep carry pocket clip. It cuts better too, due to the v-grind edge (as opposed to the convexed edge of the sebbie), full flat grind and overall thinner blade (I think). The choil really aids in grip. Also, the sebbie's lock 'sticks' a little (I believe they all do) whereas the Sage 2's lock has zero stickiness when unlocking. Some prefer the 'stick' but I like my Mayos/hinderers with the carbidized lock face, so prefer the non-stickiness of Sage 2.

However at a under $200 pricepoint, there are now quite a few other contenders...the HEST Folder for one, with D2 steel and a framelock with bells and whistles.

I had two small Sebenzas, and everything people say about them is true. I ended up selling them and picking up some other knives for one reason. Ergonomics. The handle on the small Seb was just a tad too small for my hands, and the pocketclip dug into my palm. Couple that with a reluctance to get them into the down n dirty type of work, and I decided to part ways.

One of the knives I picked up as a replacement was a Sage 2. The Sage 2 does everything right. It is missing a few of the little extras that make a Seb a Seb, but its handle was extremely comfortable. Tolerances are tight still, and it cuts like a razor. It has a place in my EDC rotation for sure.

A large Seb would probably completely smoke the Sage 2 for me though, as it should at more than twice the price. The small Seb is just too small for my tastes. I prefer the BM 707 for a similar sized blade.

With apologies to those for whom this topic has been done to death: Does anyone here like the Sage better than the Sebenza?

I like a wider blade so I'm a fan of both Sage I and II. That said, I wonder what I'm missing re the Sebbie.

Just how well does the Sage Ti compare for those with both?

I've owned both, they arent comparable. Forget reading about it, hold them both or buy them. It's the only way to understand.

I owned a large Sebenza for many years. I travel a lot and I used to stash it in my checked baggage and stress about whether it would be there when I arrived or not. Finally I decided to sell it and carry something I wouldn't be so devastated if it got lost or stolen. I guess I had other issues with the Sebenza--not the most comfortable EDC in the large size was the main thing. One great thing about any of the Reeve knives is they are a great investment.

Thanks for the comparisons.

My Sage 2 "sticks" a little; perhaps it will become smoother with use.
