All I have to say is: my Delica 4 FFG is now taking a back seat to the Sage. Beforehand, the Delica was king of my EDC rotation. Now, the Sage is the only knife I find myself carrying; that is, along with my Izula.

This knife, for me at least, is a perfect EDC knife. It isn't considerably lightweight (a la D4 FFG), heavy duty or "tactical", but I'll be damned if the ergos aren't excellent. I can't push myself to carry another knife. I am almost ready to sell my D2 Mini Grip that I just got because of this knife; I like it that much.

I haven't a Sage II, but I see one in my near future. I like the Sage so much that buying the series seems logical at this point. Well now that I think of it, buying every single production Spyderco sounds logical. ;):D

I just ordered a Sage I as well, pretty much for the same reasons as you - non tactical, high quality materials, good ergonomics and last but not least its a liner lock, which is something i appreciate in an all purpose knife (easier to clean). the package will arrive any day now. Very excited :)

I resisted the Sage for a long time, but my Sage I got here on Monday and I really, really like it. You're spot on about the ergos and the materials. It just looks (and is) high quality.

Congrats - enjoy the new Sage!

The Sage I is definitely an incredible knife. It has its place every day in my front left pocket. Along with a Para 2 and either a Native or Manix 2. I am not usually a big fan of liner locks, but the Sage I may very well have changed that.

I have carried a Sage 2 for about a year now, no words, just love it. Today my buddy picked up a Sage 1. I can't remember if my Sage 2 was that smooth when it was new, but god the Sage 1 is opens like silk, buttery buttery silk.

My favorite EDC knife to date among Spydies and others including CRKs, BMs, and Kershaws.

I'm really thinking of picking the Sage 1 up myself, it seems like one of the better values in the Spyderco lineup and I've been dying to give one of the carbon fiber models a try. Sage 3 specs don't really excite me (yet) but the Sage 2 is definitely in my future also, I believe.

I want thank all of the posters on Blade Forums who highly recommended the Sage 1. It is absolutely delightful.

Beautiful, very non-threatening and non-tactical looking.

Because of the size and placement of the hole, and the very deep cut in the CF handle, it may be the fastest and most positive deploying knife I own.

I would have preferred a larger blade, but the placement of the hole and the lack of the deep cut in the handle in other Spydercos make them slower in my hand. I have looked at the handle of the Sage 2, and it does not appear to have as deep a groove and the groove is placed differently. I am not sure that the proposed new Sages will have the wonderful ergonomics for me.

I will be happy to be corrected by more knowledgeable Spyderco enthusiasts.

Man I know what you mean. That little bugger leaves my pocket only when the pants go into the dirty laundry

Wow, are you sure you're not me? :D I quoted the parts of your post that are my thoughts dead on. As hard as I tried, I can't kick the Sage1 out of my pocket and really have no desire to. The Izula is also my neck knife of choice and these two are on me daily.

FWIW, I have a Sage2 also and while a great knife that I have no plans to get rid of, the Sage1 is still my preference for a number of reasons.

Glad I'm not alone in my Sage1/Izula infatuation.

Haha, it seems the Sage is that way with a lot of us. Something about it is... addicting.

Both versions of the Sage are excellent and attractive knives...

Been carrying the Sage as my primary EDC for several months now. It is as close to perfect as I can find, especially in its price range. Sure there are stronger, tougher, more "tactical", more expensive knives, but for me, this is a great daily carry.

It has taken me over a year to warm up to the Sage's.As an edc, they are simply one of the best,Smooth, flat carry and a low profile clip.
So now I'm wating for the Sage III.

I love this thread, it make me not feel nuts for the fact that I now only carry this knife. I think if your a knife lover that it's just such a well put together package. I still like the feel of G10, but I don't see any FRN models in my future after feeling the CF on the sage 1. I just wish their were more models with the basket weave CF that the sage has. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe it's the only one with that specific CF.

I don't know if it's the only one with that type of carbon fiber but it puts all other carbon fiber I've handled to shame.

From what Sal once said, I think it's exclusive to that one maker in Taiwan. In addition to the Sage, I know the Terzuola SlipIt has it. Not sure if Bradley does or not, but it would be the other likely candidate.

Jeez, this forum did it to me again. That really looks like a great knife. I've been going back and forth between the Sage 1 and the Para2 as my first Spyderco. Over the last week I finally decided to wait for the Para2, but this thread has got me back to leaning towards the Sage again. And alas, the Sage can be found, so it will most likely be the one to earn my money (first at least).

Wow, it sure does look nice. Those pics are great. Thanks for posting this info and the pics. I've been a Benchmade fan for a while, but I've been paying close attention to this sites Spyderco section. I'm impressed with the knives, and especially Sal's involvement in the forums. I can't wait to order my first Spyderco. I've been really eyeing the Sage1, Para2, Delica FFG, and perhaps the Stretch. I suppose someday I'll have to get them all.

Anyway, thanks again for the great comments about this knife.
