Alright, it's time I look at the sage line. I like the liner lock one the sage one, I don't like how there is no over travel stop on the sage 2. The sage 3 looks pretty cool and then there is the sage 5 with the compression lock. So at this point for me it is Sage 1 vs Sage 5. What should I get?

Do you like the lock on the back of the knife or right where your thumb is? I like the comp lock but in EDC use I prefer a liner or frame lock. I actually really like the bolt action lock of the 3, it feels quite similar to an axis lock but the 3 is a little thicker than the rest I think. Oddly enough, since I like metal handles, the sage 2 was my least favorite.

So my "vote" would be for a sage 1 but it really depends on how you feel about each lock. Both will be great knives.

Sage 5 has hidden liners and also there is no cutout like in Sage 1 and to me that looks prettier. I like how CF looks on sage 5

Compression lock is awesome and a more unique/interesting design. Liner locks are a dime a dozen... choice would be easy for me.

Personally, I prefer the compression lock because I have more options to close the blade without putting my fingers in front of the blade. However, you might notice the compression lock cutout and mechanism as a hot spot if you are doing a lot of hard cuts with increased pressure on the top of the handle... or not.

I prefer liner locks because they are the most secure for me to close one handed, important because I'm often in a situation that if I drop it, it's gone forever.
But if you haven't tried a compression lock, which is a variation of the traditional liner lock, I suggest it.

The only reason I didn't really bring up the Sage 3 is because I have a manix 2 lw in xhp.

Out of the two choices, Sage 5 is the nicest. But for me, it's all about the Sage 2.

I could see why people like the sage 2 but the price isn't for me right now. Not that I think it is expensive cause I will gladly pay for a knife that price its just there are other knives I would rather have and I could just get a sage 1 or 5.

You should defintly check out the Sage 5 then. It is a great knife, actually carried it today. I really like the new carbon fiber overlay on it, the Sage 1 is exactly the same as the GB and GB2, chaparral, etc.

Alright thanks for the help. I think I will go with the sage 5 but I am going to wait on buying it due to there being so many blades I want to pick up and some that I am waiting for to come out. Thanks for the help!

I would definitely say go with the 5. The Sage 5 that I received wouldn't drop free without a substantial amount of side to side blade play. It was kind of a bummer having a compression lock knife that wouldn't drop free after owning a good number of PM2's, but I'd still take a 5 over a 1.
