Sage1 "Fit" Question

Hi all,
I received my new Sage1 on Friday and love it. Everything about this knife is great, but I did notice that the blade is not quite centered between the liners when closed. It pushes over to the side away from the clip. I'm sure it is due to the pressure of the liner lock pressing against it.

At first I dismissed this as not even an issue, but it started bugging me yesterday. I tried adjusting the pivot screws without much luck. The only way I could get the blade centered was to tighten both sides down to where the blade wouldn't move easily. When I loosen them up the blade starts moving towards the side again. I've swapped the pivot screws with no luck. I find that I need to keep the pivot just a little tighter to my liking to keep the blade within my threshold of tolerances.

So what to do.... Is this a common thing with liner locks? Should I swap it out? Or should I just get over it and be happy with my awesome knife? Your honest opinion would be appreciated. Thanks.

hey rossta,
this is just probably an assembly issue, easy to fix.
first, loosen all the screws, but don't remove them. then take a wedge, folded paper, or whatever you have, and put it between the blade and liners on the clip side, forcing the blade to the front side of the knife.
then tighten the srews, and adjust the pivot to your liking.
it may take you a few tries to get it centered, but this method should solve your problem.
hope it works out for you!
good luck!

before doing any tinkering, break the knife in.

the point where you mention the blade is centered but the knife hard to open will probably be smooth once the knife is completely broken in.

You can also loosen the screws and push down on the side that the blade is too close to. This should bring the pivot down on that side and move the blade away and over towards the middle. Then tighten everything back up. Inserting the piece of paper as mentioned above probably does something similar in the end. And by down I mean the direction opposite the tip of the blade when the knife is open, in the long direction. Hope that makes sense.

All of these suggestions are good places to start. If none of them do the trick, disassemble the entire knife and very slightly bend one or both liners in the proper direction. It will center up that way also.
I would just lube it, and use it until broken in first. On my Sages, I tighten the pivot until the blade just barely centers and after some lube they're smooth as glass. All three are perfectly centered now but one of my Sage1's did require the disassembling approach.

Could you explain this a little more? You actually bend the liner? Where would you bend it, which direction, and how much? Wouldn't a bend just be pulled back when the screws are tightened down?

Just trying to picture this in my head and possibly add another technique.

Hi all,
I gave this a try. It did seem to help. It's not exactly in the center, but pretty darned close. I'll let the knife break in a bit as well. Thanks to all for your advice. I would have never thought of doing this. I'm learning a ton here! This is simply an awesome knife. I might have to pick up another sometime!

Before you disassemble, imagine which direction the pivot end of the knife would have to angle to center your blade. Then take apart and slightly bend one or both liners in that direction about 3/4" to 1" from the pivot hole.
When you reassemble it will pull the bend back out some but it's just enough to make a difference on the centering since there is usually some space between the screws diameter and the liner holes diameter.
When I say bend just a little, I mean you'll hardly be able to tell you moved the liner at all but it can make a diff. If done correctly you should not have a gap between the liners and CF handle scales either.

On both my Sage 1 and my Sage 2, I can adjust the blade positioning by tightening/loosening the pivot screw.
