Hello everyone. Im pretty new on this forum been lurking a while.

Im interested in a new edc knife. I was looking at the sage 2 and the leafstorm specifically but am open to other options(brands, steels, materials, etc...)

what i liked about bout those knives was the locking mechanism and their size, although i prefered the size of the leafstorm but not so much the raw g10.

so I ask if anyone has any suggestions of similar blades. as I said im pretty open, but would like something sub 3" preferably around 2.5",
or if anyone could weigh in on the pros/cons of each

any help suggestions would be appreciated, thank you in advance.

Get the Sage 2. The leafstorm is nice but after handling one i'd be afraid of my hand slipping onto the blade.

I think the choice between a Sage 1 and 2 is just a matter of preference. They're the same size knife, with the same great ergo's, but do you prefer carbon fiber with a liner lock or a Ti framelock. I Love my Sage 1, but recently I got my first Ti framelock and now I'm saving for a Sage 2.
I've never handled a Leafstorm, but from what I hear the framelock is somewhat thin. I don't think you'd need anything thicker for such a small knife though.
Anyways, I vote SAGE all the way.

Would you suggest the sage 1 over the 2? Why?

I don't like metal handles on my knives. They scratch easily, don't have a very grippy surface and are cold to the touch (although Ti is less so). EDC means they get used a lot and since the blades are the same, I prefer the textured CF over the Ti. It's not so grippy that it tears up pockets like some textured G-10 either. The CF on the Sage is a perfect combination of lightness, strength, grip, looks and price. It's a grand slam home run in my book.

I know there will be folks that say RIL is safer and stronger over the liner lock but the Sage 1 has a very good liner lock and I trust it. I've tried out a lot of knives after the Sage 1 but I always go back to it. You can always get both, I did. :D But guess which one I carry?

But in the end, get what you like. If you aren't happy with it, all the reasons and logic in the world can't fix it for you.

I have big love for my Sage 2- great ergos, takes a nasty edge, looks awesome...

Sage 2 FTW - easy choice for me. Near perfect F&F and a usable size while not too big or heavy. They weigh around 3.2 ounces and you get a very usable 3" leaf shaped blade. It will probably fit your hand like a glove too.

thanks for all the help everyone.
so i guess the question is now whether to get the 1 or 2.
leaning towards the 2.
anyone know wheres the cheapest place to find it?

Don't kiss off the Leafstorm just yet.

Most negative comments on the Leafstorm come from those that don't own one. I've carried and USED mine for over a year and it has replaced my small Sebenza as my EDC.

I carry mine clipless and in my pocket. The Reeve style bushing system on the pivot along with adjustable lock up make this knife a precision frame lock. Great S30V blade as typical of Spyderco.

I've used mine hard and there is no pivot play, lock up is virtually the same and the blade holds an edge.

BTW , as far as my hand slipping forward on the blade....never happened in hundreds of uses over a year including stabbing cardboard for starter cuts.

silentnoise,

Left you a vistor message about a shop w/great price on Sage 2. My iphone wouldn't let me send a pm.

Agreed. I owned two Leafstorms and still have two Sage 2's. But all that indicates is what I have concluded, for me. The Leafstorm is a VERY fine knife but the Sage 2 for me, got all the pocket time anyway.

If you like the size of Leafstorm, but want Ti slabs on both sides, try to find a Buck/Mayo Waimea. I think it is also a bit more comfortable than Leafstorm.
