sage2 titanium or paramilitary?

You will find a huge following for the Para here.

The ergos on the Para completely outclass the Sage on all levels. The lock is arguably stronger and more fun to use, it can be actuated much like an axis lock. The texture on the G10 will give you much more grip than the smooth Ti on the Sage.

Plus the Para is made in Golden, CO USA Earth and the Sage is outsourced to Taiwan.

I have both, and the SageII kinda makes the PARA look and feel like a toy.

Its has the best ergos of any folder I've have ever had... and I've had/have alot. I even like it better than my sebbies, and now EDC it over my Sebenza's.

The Tawain thing may bother you, it does me a bit, but not enough to stop me from owning one of the best folders ever made(IMO at least).

Love the Paramilitary i buy other spydies but nothing like my para. My Para always finds it way back into my pocket. Its my edc

I have both and would pic the paramilitary in D2 if I had to pick only one...SageII is a fantastic knife and a bit smaller so it would not be an easy choice.

Manix 2 :p

I'd go para probably, I prefer a Spyderco that says

Golden, Colorado
U.S.A. Earth

i read somewhere that future para's will be made in taiwan... would that deter you from getting another para if you were to lose yours?

im all for keeping jobs in the states... but as far as quality goes, i do think that taiwan is making great progress.

Where did you hear that?

Obviously outsourcing is directly linked to the quality and ergonomics of a knife :) That's why I only buy my Spyderco knives that were made in Seki City, Colorado.

The blade shape and ergonomics of the Sage/Caly/Stretch blow the Para out of the water. Just because you can choke up well on a tape-wrapped pry bar doesn't give it "great ergos".

Seriously though, look at the names. What are you going to use it for? One is a classy folder and one is a tankfolder. If you need something for both occasions a Caly3 G10 or Stretch II FRN is a better thought out knife. If you want something for the trenches/outdoors or something for the law office the Para or Sage will fit those tasks MUCH better.

We might as well compare a Kiwi to a Chinook and ask: which one is better?

Well I'm paring my "collection" down significantly because I was getting out of control with knives I never used and enjoyed. And right now I have pared the list of keepers down to:

* Two D2 Paras (still have to sell one though, I have three now)
* Two Sage 2 (I've carried one everyday for the past month)
* Two CF Walker Sages (may sell one)
* Two Militaries
* Two Moteng Lums (may sell one)
* One CF S90V Manix 2
* One Chokwe (may sell)
* One Leafstorm (may sell)

I REALLY like the Sages and the RIL especially. They are fantastic EDC's in all repsects, for me. One RIL is NIB and the carry RIL has "love marks" now. Once I got past those love marks I have enjoyed using that knife a great deal each day. And I'm also one who actually happens to appreciate the wire clip. My daily carry doesn't have to hold tight through somersaults and it doesn't have survive a nuclear blast. I have other knives for SHTF stuff. The wire clip is kind to my pockets and holds fine for my regular kind of day. The ergos are wonderful on the Sages. The size is not too small or not too big. The choil is very useful and functional. Each time I handle my Sage RIL I smile.

But that isn't my final answer! :D You gotta love the Para too . . .

thanks guys for the great input. i really appreciate it...

tell me how ridiculous this is, i went to Excalibur Cutlery and Gifts today to pick up the knife (didnt want to wait for shipping) and i asked to take a look at the para. THEY DONT STOCK IT. they had a few more obscure spyderco offerings. It made me really wonder what's wrong with the stores buyer.

from what i read the para is one of spyderco's more renown/best selling knives.if you sell spyderco knives, you should have a few para's in stock no? well... this is just my opinion i suppose.

when i got home i decided to go with the RIL Sage. mainly because of what zippothisknifethat, snagblade, and reek mentioned. i do need a knife that has a bit of a more reserved and less aggressive look to it. im around a lot of people who are not familiar/comfortable with knives. and this is a big reason why i got rid of my kershaw avalanche.

at the end of the day both knives cut well. on top of that i brain farted the fact that the ril sage is a sprint run and will be dc'd/unavailable soon. i can count on the para still being available in a few months :)

This thing is a poor mans Sebenza, Cant beat it for the price, Im ordering a second one just incase they stop making them, Now how Sick is that............
and I own 7 Sebenza's.

:D:D:D Rickster :D:D:D

Perhaps, like the original Manix, C83 Persian, Dodo, Yojimbo, and a few others, the Para has a strong "cult" following among the group Sal refers to as "afis", but is not nearly as popular with the general knife buying public. And, not to sway you away from the RIL Sage, but it's not a Sprint Run and, hopefully, will be around for a few years more.

what is "afis"?

also knifeworks.com has their ril sage advertised as a limited run. so i assumed they knew what they were talking about. my mistake i guess.

either way its the sage for now :)
i will get a para for sure in the months to come.

As for the other, I'm just going by Sal's comments. My understanding is that, unlike the Kopas and Mules, where only X pieces of each version are made and each new versions replace the prior one, Spyderco intends the Sage series tol be "additive" and that specific versions would only be dropped if the stop selling. As an example, the CF Walker Lock Sage is still in production, even though the RIL version has been out for a while now. On the other hand, the various versions of the Sage may be what Spyderco refers to as "Limited Production" items, in that the maker can only provide a maximum of X pieces per month, regardless of how high demand might get.

I love my Sage 2 and I don't care for the Para at all--too much handle for too little blade--plus it's tip down.

RIL Sage; carries a lot more discretely and whenever I'd consider using a Para I always end up grabbing a Lil Temp or full sized Military instead.

so... i just got my ril sage. and i gotta say i am not disappointed one bit. i've read a lot of good things about this guy, and they are all true. i dont think i'd ever want to buy a sebenza when these are available, i just dont see why. the sebenza and the sage are obviously not the same... but i feel like the sage's price point just gives you more bang for the buck...

unfortunately (for my bank acct lol) i also picked up a paramilitary. :) / :( i found a great deal ... someone was selling a blk g10/satin plain blade for 75+shipping (he gave it to me for 60shipped)... i just thought that was too good of a deal to pass up.
