I was on my way home from my appointment today, and we decided to stop at Eastern Mountain Sports. We were looking around, when I spotted it!! I have been wanting an Alox SAK. So, I picked up a Soldier for $25. I LOVE it!! SAK's are great knives!!

Aye. I want to get some Alox models, a soldier or farmer would fit the bill nicely.

Good call TKC. I have a soldier myself. I love it. My favorite is the Pioneer Harvester in Red Alox. :)

I'm a big fan of the alox knives, particularly the red alox handles. I found a rare red alox soldier at a gun show a few years ago, never used in box with papers, and gave it to my father for christmas. I have the silver alox soldier (with the hollow pivot pin on one end. and I have the farmer, (love that damn saw!) The red alox soldier has brass liners also, I assume that means it's older?

I picked up a KL91 from Felinevet awhile ago. That knife is solid! I've got to get that knife worked into my EDC rotation.

Possibly, I've never come across the red alox models in person. Sounds like a nice gift though, great find.

The alox soldiers are nice for their beefier blades and slightly more rugged construction. Keeps the functionality of a SAK though...narrow blade with the flat grind, the extra tools and so forth. SAK's are one of the most practical EDC's out there IMO.

I have the Soldier & a DAK KL92 on the way! These are very handy knives!

That is a nice SAK for sure. EMS had a 20% sale a few weeks ago, meant to pop in but never had the chance.

My Bantam Alox is my "suit" knife. Light, looks good, razor sharp, sheeple friendly. Hard to believe its so cheap, too.

Anyone know where I can find a Red Alox SAK (Pioneer Harvester or Soldier)? I never knew they made them but have always thought that would look cool.

Absolutely, no better knife made to soothe the frightened hearts of sheeple then a cute little red SAK. I EDC an alox cadet along with a much feared Spydie or BM. 90% of cutting tasks are handled by the SAK. I live for that cool 10%...;)

My Soldier has done a lot of work through the years, and kept on going. Someday, I'm going to try melding two Alox Solos together and make a Sak Moose. :D

I want an Alox Farmer.............................................. badly!! :(

.

Congrats on the Vicy score, TKC!!

I love the "Farmer". The awl and the saw are a nice extra, and it's still a small package. I use the awl for everything including scraping my fire steel and mag block for fire starting. If you lose your hip knife, the saw could help with shelter building and the like. Also a great EDC

SAKs are great all around knives. Like you suggest, using a secondary tool for fire starting keeps the main blade prettier. :D

The saw it useful for most anything dealing with wood working. One thought did cross my mind today though. If I ever managed to wear down my saw a good bit, it'd be painfully difficult to get sharp again. At least a replacement could be purchased for a mere 20 or 30$, so it's not really a big concern. Just something I was thinking about today while I opened up a can of chicken noodle soup.

I agree though, SAKs are wonderful EDC's. What other knife can fill such a variety of uses while maintaning a NKP friendlieness that SAKs inheritly have? There's no question over their cutting abilities either. They take a little more sharpening and aren't the prybars other modern knives are, but a strip of sandpaer in the wallet and using the awl instead of the blade for prying seems like a good compromise to me. :)

I got a Farmer for Christmas and love it. I find myself carrying it most of the time. If I had to pick one edc, I'd probably pick the Farmer over my delica, monochrome, ka-bar dozier, and others. My Tinker isn't carried very much since I got the Farmer.

Good point. Also (as mentioned before) very "Sheeple" friendly
