Not really. Us lefties have had to adapt to a right handed world. Most of us lefties are much more adept as using our right hands and right handed tools than righties are at using their left hands and left handed tools. When must of us use a Vic can opener we use the knife in our right hands.I find the Victorinox can opener very easy to use but that was not always the case. There are a few things I figured out that made it easier to use. It might be a bit hard to explain without pictures but I will try.
First off you must always move "forward" around the can with the can opener that is standard on most all new SAK's.
When you place the opener on the can hook it in and then tilt it to the left as to give a ever so slight angle to it.
You do not need to push down. Just rock the knife on the lip of the can while moving forward.
No need for excessive pressure.
Just practice the proper tilt and rocking and you shoudl be zipping through cans in no time.
EDIT: I forgot to mention. The can opener is specifically designed for right hand users. If you are a lefty it will throw everything off and be very difficult to use.
Every year at the office, on the Wednesday of the week we have our Friday Christmas party we have a big breakfast. Last Wednesday, the Division Chief who's always in charge of making omelettes was struggling with a couple of those hand crank can openers on a cans of mushrooms. Both of those hand crank can openers were just absolute crap, so I gave one man my Vic Farmer, and I used my P38. The P38 was much faster and easier opening the cans, and I'm a lefty. That Division Chief ask me to leave my P38. I just laughed and told him to come get me when he needed more cans opened.
