Am I the only one who hates the can opener Victorinox uses? I prefer the backward cut can openers like on my Leatherman.

Yes, I don't like the Vic can opener either. I prefer the Wenger style - works much easier and better IMHO.

Not really hating the Vic can opener, but I always get a little nervous using it because the way I hold a can puts my hand somewhat in the way of a possible injury from slippage. Even though it leaves a slightly more ragged edge on the rim, I much prefer the Leatherman or similar parrots beak type found on demo or older Boy Scout knives. Bringing up the rear is the opener on Leatherman Juice models, but in my experience, all m-t openers work well enough.

For opening cans, I guess I prefer the Leatherman or Wenger style. But I gladly trade a little can-opening performance for having that little screwdriver tip on the Victorinox. Works great on both small screws and even Phillips-head screws. To me it's a small screwdriver first, a can opener second.

I prefer the victorinox opener. I had a juice xe6 at some point, and among other things, i didn't like how that opener worked. I don't have any wengers to compare.

I agree that little flat screwdriver is handy. Guess I will carry a P38 with my SAK Tinker. Lol

Don't have any problem with mine. I prefer it over the the manual crank model we have in the kitchen.

Yeah, but not a wonderful screwdriver. I have several SAKs, all of them with twisted small driver tips from attempting to use them on slotted screw heads too small for the large flathead. Maybe European standards are different, but too often, neither fits the screws I deal with very well. It fits ph heads okay, but not if they are countersunk, and it's not strong enough to get them out if they are in too tight. With my Tinker, I often start off trying the small driver tip, and when that doesn't work, switch to the dedicated one on the back spring side, which usually gets the job done. It's a good can opener, although I prefer the Leatherman.

The P-38 is a wonderful can opener, and it deals with both flat and phiilips screws very well also. When I put my old army issue P-38 back in my wallet, I slacked off on carrying my SAK, and now carry the little 58mm's. And the P-38 in the wallet goes through TSA security.

I love the Victorinox SAK can opener. I find it very easy and instinctual to use. Personally, I don't care for the ones on Leathermans or Wengers.

I used a Vic Spartan can opener in the kitchen for a couple of years as my primary can opener. I think it's great.

As has been mentioned, the solution (mine is ~ 35 years old):

P38s are great but the Vic can opener is great too once you get used to it. Reminder, Vic tools, as well as other MT tools are really made for light duty stuff. If you have real work to do get the proper tool.
