I started wondering how long the little SAK classic has been in production. Anyone have an idea what year it was introduced? Thanks.

I have read that LBJ gave Victorinox classics out at the White House as mementos, so they must have been around in the late 60's. Does anyone remember them being around before then?

I wish I had an answer for you but I don't.I too would be interested to know the history of the classic. If i turn up anything I will post to let you know.I recently bought a lot of 20 classics from ebay and gave them away to family and friends as a way to introduce more people to swiss army knives,I collect them and enjoy learning about them.

Thanks Matt, I had thought this would be something that was more widely known (or at least known to one of the real die hard SAK gurus out there). I guess I shouldn't ponder it, life needs some questions to remain questions. But if anyone does know the answer....

I hate to say I can't really give you THE answer, but I do know that the Executive has been around since at least the late '60s, too, and the Classic being a smaller, more basic and ubiquitous model, I will assume the Classic has probably been around since the mid-or-late '60s.

Sorry about the non-answer again. But I really love discussions of Victorinox SAKs that I happen to own! ;)

Go to SOSAK.com The guys there know every possible thing about SAK's, or you could try to contact Vincent, or Unknowvt, who knows a lot about SAK's also.

I took a look at SOSAK, but didn't find any Classic date info.-- a lot of other interesting stuff though. The answer must be out there somewhere....
