SAK Conundrum

Well, I've been carrying my sportsman since I got it on Wednesday, and I love it. It's nice and light in the pocket, and is currently attached via lanyard to a Maglite Solitaire. That little combo is basically everything I need for a compact and light duty EDC. I think this may be the start of a SAK addiction, like some mentioned. I'd really like to sample the Wenger highlander, which is from what I can tell, their version of the Sportsman, to compare the two brands.

One thing I noticed is that the handle scales are not the traditional glossy red scales, but are more of a dull, matte finish. I like that, although I was not expecting it.

Thanks again for the suggestions and comments. I think y'all have made a SAK fan out of me. :D

Congrats! now you gotta get yourself a Fenix E01 muuuch better than that Mag (LED tech) ;)

some pictures would be nice of your new baby :D

^I'll upgrade eventually. I don't use a light often enough to justify spending a ton of money on one...once work starts up again in a month, I will look into a Streamlight Stylus Pro...and I do want something with a strobe mode eventually (before I go to DC in July, specifically). Again...going to try and stay on the budget side of things with that too. For now though, my Solitaire and AA Mini Maglite are good enough for my EDC purposes.

My attempt at a beauty shot of my new acquisition.

nice pics! (salute)

the E01 is about 15 usd (and comes in a ton of colors)

may I ask why you want strobe? (most people hate it lol)

Since I'm not old enough for a CCW, and let's be honest...I probably couldn't defend my life with a knife if I tried, a strobe feature on a flashlight seems to me like a good way to get my ass out of Dodge if I manage to find myself in a less than kosher situation when I travel to DC with my choir this summer (the light will destroy night vision, and the rapid flashing will mask my exact location). Since I don't know where I will be going exactly, I don't want to bring any larger knives lest they be confiscated, so for piece of mind, a flashlight with a strobe mode will be in my pocket. Since I'm not even sure of the legality of Mace in DC...I figure a flashlight will be legal everywhere.

I don't plan on finding myself in any situation where I'd need to defend myself or escape quickly, but it's a nice piece of mind, you know? Usually my Solitaire is enough light for me, but once I find a suitable light, it may find its way into my general EDC, instead of just night outings like my larger lights do now.

I'm looking into the Maglite XL100. Around $30, so it won't break the bank, and it's more than bright enough for my purposes, with an easily accessible Strobe mode.

a diversion! I like that, good one ;)

that's about the best reason I've heard (salute) and again, thx for the pics I luv seeing happy SAK pics lol

The E01 is a very affordable and good small flashlight. I have one in my EDC and love it. Always handy to have a small flashlight around.
