I bought this knife and really liked it. I am a farmer, so why not. Ever time I went to cut something, the lanyard ring would dig into the palm of my hand. Has anyone else had this problem? I kinda got my eye on a one hand trekker, with the non serrated blade.

Ray, a lot of people grind the bail off end. I don't personally have any problem with it but you are definitely not the only one who has. The plain edge OHT is awesome as well. Its a little big for EDC pocket carry for my taste but I take it camping a lot.

The Farmer is a great knife. I do sometimes wish I could trade the punch for scissors, but that's the name of the game with many SAK designs.

I have Farmer's in a couple PSK's I've put together. Although you can always add more to a knife, the Farmer has just what you need for hiking. I like to have scissors, toothpick and tweezers, so adding an SAK Classic makes a perfect setup.

The next step up is an SAK Fieldmaster, but it's not as simple, clean, light or inexpensive as the Farmer.

Agreed that you can't go wrong with something like the Rucksack or OHT. If you don't like the ring, there's no reason why you can't grind it off. (Like another poster already said).

Slight thread drift here, but my perfect hiking SAK is/was the Outdoorsman. It has:

* Large Blade
* Small Blade
* Can Opener with Small Screwdriver
* Bottle Opener with Large Screwdriver
* Scissors
* Wood Saw
* Fish Scaler
* Magnifier
* Phillips Screwdriver
* Awl
* Corkscrew
* Hook
* Fine Screwdriver
* Toothpick
* Tweezers
* Key Ring

Unfortunately, it is no longer made, but I do have one of the versions made for Marlboro in a promotional a good while back. Same knife made by Victorinox. It just has a big old "Marlboro" logo on it.

The Farmer is my favorite SAK. I haven't noticed the ring digging into my hand, but now I probably will!
If it bothers you, grind it off. Hmm, that could be a philosophy...

Guyon,

Celluloid handles are easily replaceable. No need to advertise for Marlboro if you don't want to.

I like em all :D But strangely enough my favorite for hiking..is the hiker:D I like the thought of alox, I've carried a pioneer harvester 4 the last 6 months or so,Even though there a little more sturdy I think I like the standard models a little better, I like having the toothpick and tweezers, and I actually find the alox is more slippery to me and harder to keep a grip on..probably the only one though!

I ground off the lanyard ring on mine. I also had scibeer add scissors to it. It's my favorite knife that I own. I'll probably cry when I get that first inevitable scratch on the red alox. Instead of the scissor mod, it's just as easy to also carry a Vic Classic sized knife for the scissors (plus toothpick and tweezers.) The Farmer/Classic combo weighs exactly the same as the scibeer mod (and is a bit cheaper.) It's just not as cool.

The OHT is usually my around the house and yard knife. When I leave home, it's the Farmer w/scissors.

This has been the subject of several threads on this forum. I had the same problem with the Farmer. I went to a E.P.as its the same as the Farmer but it has no lanyard ring/bump and has a nice small sheepfoot blade instead of the can opener. Its been my EDC ever since. I just put a P-38 on my keyring for the cans. Try one!---KV

Never had the problem with my farmer cutting into my hands.

I have been looking at the Plain Edged OHT and think I NEED ONE!!! Vic. has some very pracitcal solutions to everyday carry.

Never had an issue with the lanyard ring myself... never even noticed it to be honest. Farmer is a great SAK, but you can always cantact Scibeer and see if he can mod one for you.

I had always owned various SAK's but never really, truly loved them until I got a Farmer. Really great and indespensible tool.

You all have got me wanting another farmer. Can you have too many SAK's?

I had to remove the lanyard ring on mine. It was downright painful, digging into the heel of my hand anytime I whittled or used the knife for any extended time. With it off, it's a great tool.

I just wish they made the Pioneer Harvester with a lanyard ring...fobs are great.
