SAK help

I lost my Victorinox Soldier this weekend, used that one daily. Looking at possibly the Wenger version since Vic is disco'd. Or, the Farmer. Then, possibly one of the new gen locking models. How much fatter in the pocket is the Farmer? Are the new locking versions as pocket friendly? I'm guessing not but thought i'd seek some advice. Much thanks and have a great Independence Day.

Why not just get a Victorinox Pioneer?....it's pretty much the same knife as the old soldier and is not as heavy as the farmer.
 
i have the wenger standard issue. looks just like the victorinox soldier. i love mine, and find no quality issues with wenger. edc mine everyday with a folder .
 
You can get a Pioneer from Victorinox, which is the same knife as the old alox soldier. The only difference, IIRC, is that it has a keyring. The Wenger SI is great, too. I like the bail. The Farmer isn't much thicker than the Pioneer/Soldier. Even though it has an extra layer, it's a thin one.

The new locking models are much larger than the alox models and certainly not as pocket friendly.
 
I didn't know about the Pioneer, thanks! Is the length the same at the Soldier, Amazon states it's closed length is 3.5". I think the Soldier was 3& 5/8" becasue it was exactly the same length as my sod buster jr. The Victorinox site shows all the large ALOX knives at 93mm closed, was that a standard for the bigger ALOX knives? I am pretty miffed at losing the Soldier, I loved that knife. Last used it to slice up a bagel at Bruggers for my 5 year old daughter, like a pocket laser beam I kept it so sharp.

IIRC,

Pioneer = Soldier in dimension & tools. Victorinox alox has two sizes. The large is like Pioneer or Soldier. Slightly smaller is Bantam. You can compare them.

Some sites spec might not be 100% accurate. More info can be dug from sosakonline.com.

After reading all the good things about SAK's, I finally broke down and bought a Huntsman for $30. To be honest, I've never been a big fan of SAK's, always felt that Leatherman were better quality-wise. So, gonna carry it for awhile, and give it an honest chance. Who know's, might replace the leatherman! :D
 
I think the Pioneer is the same size as the old soldier.I know there's another alox model which is a tad smaller called the cadet,it's basically a 3/4 size version of the Pioneer. I purchased two pioneers last week and really like em'. There's even a little ring for a lanyard......for the next time you're @ Bruggers.....

Right on. Cadet & Bantam same size, smaller than Pioneer, Farmer & Soldier
