I have 20 SAK's & love em.I have two model's with saw blades that I rarely use. Whats up with this SAW fetish? I am curious as heck to know Wuss Up with the SAW thing! Please enlighten me!:confused::confused:

The saws perform quite well given the size they are. Since I usually carry a reg EDC blade for general cutting tasks, I carry a SAK for the other tools essentially. My mine two are the Champion Plus and CyberLite. Both have metal saws as well. The SAK blade is for food only. Saw and scissors (another valuable tool imo) are must haves on my SAKs. YMMV depending on what ya use.

I think many folks use the saw in a wilderness setting: notching wood, stripping small branches off, etc.

Saws are handy little items and believe or not they work quite well for makin' triggers for snares and deadfalls.:)

OK.. I am starting to get it now! The two models with saws I have work great even through Oak wood. No problem here in that they cut very well. Just wondering why so many like em so much is all. Only used the saw two times in a year.

When camping, I use the saws to make small pieces of wood for a campfire, but wood can be used for many other things. The saw on a SAK works very well for small branches.

I once used the saw on my Swiss Champ to cut a letter box slot in a new front door. Worked perfectly.

Got a Huntsman in my medical kit, the saw may be used to make splints if needed.

SAK saws are extremely efficient.

trimming small limbs, snares, I've even used it (OHT) for dry wall holes/cut-outs, worked great.

I love the saws on my sak. It's like a spare tire for your car. If you get stuck somewhere I can at least get some firewood.

They work great for cutting openings in sheet rock and panelling for light switches, wall sockets, and roughed in plumbing. The saw was actually my primary reason for choosing the farmer. I think the saw is a little more robust than on the red handled versions.

The saw will allow you to do things that can't be done with other folding knives.
It can be very handy.
No need to baton (and break) your prize tacticool folder to get through a piece of wood. Just whip out the SAK and get the job done!

A SAK or multitool saw is usually a better-than-nothing implement for most applications, just something to have with you in case. Sometimes, though, it is just the right tool for the job, like taking out small tree branches or saplings growing close to or through chain link fence.
That's my main use for one. Any regular size saw, even small ones, are too large for that kind of close work.

While I often carry a SAK that has no saw and get along just fine, the saw truly adds power to the tool that you simply cannot get efficiently by misusing any of the other tools.

For example, a knife blade on a SAK or medium folder can cut string, turn a screw, stab through a can. You would much rather have a Climber that has scissors for the string, a driver to tighten the screw, and an opener to get into your can. What it cannot do is cleanly harvest a tree or branch up to 3" in diameter. The saw adds a tool, while limited in multiple kinds of tasks, that cannot be forced and stores in a very slim package:thumbup:

I'd say there isn't much, if anything, in it. Still, the Farmer is a fine SAK and I'm not knocking it at all.

The saw isn't a tool I'd feel naked without, unlike scissors. I have to have scissors on me at all times.:o That said if I'm going to be in the great outdoors then I'd have to have one, they really do work well. The back of the saw also works very well as a striker for a ferro rod.

See, I don't use scissors at all. It's all about your needs. If you don't need a saw, then choose a tool that has something else you will need.

Oddly I just realised the last three mods I've done were to add a saw to a SAK. Maybe I like them more than I though?;)

Explorer with scissor removed and saw added (this wasn't for me though)

Sportsman with added saw.

The Sportsman+saw just got used quite a bit the other day in the garden.

I just used the saw on my farmer at work today to remove a PVC male adapter that was broken off in a 3/4" coupling. The uses for this little cutter are endless.

I agree and that is also one of the reasons that I have multiple SAK's. In daily life, I rarely need a wood saw, but I do use scissors quite a lot. For camping and hiking, I really want a wood saw in my selection of tools.

I agree that the three best tools on a SAK are the scissors, saw and corkscrew(when you need one you really need one :)

Is there one with a corkscrew, saw and scissors on it in a 2 layer package?
