SAK Mysterious Hook...

Just got myself a huntsman with the bird hook, never thought of all the uses I've seen here, I know it as a "Bird Hook"

Small birds, such as quail, can be gutted using a bird hook (gut hook) that can be inserted in the vent, twisted and withdrawn, bringing the entrails with it. Some pocketknives are available with the hook as one of the folding components. It is preferable to refer to the little tool as a bird hook rather than gut hook, because the term can be confused with gut hook knives that have a sharp, hooked slitting facility factored onto the back of the blade at the tip.

What ufox9al said... Apparently, Europeans (or at least Swiss) wrap stuff up in string (rather than tape) regularly...

until about 2 years ago, the swiss mail want have any box etc with an string wrapped, now its standart tape.

the hook is also used for pull out things like tent hooks etc.

and if you wash your sak you can hang it on the hook on your clothline:D

the point is to have an hook with the nailfile, that one is usually not on an common sak, collectors like it.

you could probably use the hook to unstring a really powerful longbow without slicing your fingers.

Richard J correctly identified the use of the hook. They are for gutting small gamebirds(quail, dove). it is called a guthook. Insert thru anus up to the neck, tilt birds head and spin, then pull guts free thru anus. Some of the uses mention above are "Precious". haha L
