SAK pliers

I've debated about purchasing a new SAK containing pliers, simply because I'm a realist and believe firmly in Mr. Murphy's theory; anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. Also, being an Eagle Scout, I strive to always be prepared. However, the SAK pliers seem to be SAK "tweezers on steroids" when compared to multi-tool pliers.

Am I alone in this hypothesis?:confused::confused:

No, but as a former Scoutmaster, I guess my mindset is similar to yours. That is why my EDC almost always includes (real) pliers based multi-tools and danged if they haven't got me out of jams a few times. Odd that I never missed them in the decades I carried only Scout/SAK style knives.

I have numerous Vic's with pliers, and while they may be small, I see that as their main limitation. They simply can't grab very large objects, but when it comes to strength, I think that they are pound for pound as strong as a regular multitool plier. In other words, if you think your needs don't require a big set of pliers, these are very well built and will hold up. I can't say enough about how great Vic's quality is for the price. If their knives cost twice as much, I'd still happily pay it.

Ahh, the scouting days, I sure do miss 'em!! :(:(:(

However, I think all Scoutmasters are alike because, like you Znapschatz, back in "the day" my head scoutmaster's EDC would rotate between a SAK SwissChamp and Leatherman PST (the original, early-mid 90s version). Thanks for the advice!!

:D

Frankly, more than I would have guessed. My rotation, for years, was a Swisschamp and a PST, also the early, mid '90s version. I'm afraid to ask: could it be that you were in my Scout troop  ? Could I have been your Scoutmaster  ?

I really like mine, and I can't see carrying anything heavier. If I really need a big pair of pliers, I think I'm happier with a regular pair of pliers.

Come on, Znapschatz, send The Motivator a PM or email and ask him directly! That would be a cool coincidence.

PM sent! A cool coincidence it would be indeed.

Since I am not a paid member, PMs don't reach me and I can't send any out :( but I do get to use these nice imoticons :D . OTOH, i have got to think that if a Swisschamp/PST parlay would seem a Good Thing to me, undoubtedly some others would have come to the same conclusion. In personal preferences, I don't usually stray too far from the herd.

Znapschatz,
I think I've made a new friend!

Question: Do you carry your Vic SwissChamp in a front/cargo pocket or on a belt in a sheath? Seems a bit wide & bulky for conventional front pocket carry....
