sak poll???????????

toothed thanks!!! I appreciate the comments, Im expecting a couple of the one handed versions in the mail today!!!!

Explorer. It is very useful at work, and I carry it more often than not at home, too. I'm thinking of modifying the can-opener into just a screwdriver, as I don't need to open cans very often.
The phillips on the end, and the magnifier come in real handy.
I've added a leather lanyard to it, and a small screwdriver in the corkscrew, too.

84mm Spartan for me, with the indispensable little screwdriver that fits into the corkscrew.

steve1701d: How would you modify your Explorer's can-opener into just a screwdriver? What would be the advantage to doing so? Just curious.

I think I can carefully file or dremel off the sharp, rounded part, and file back part of the hook that catches the crimp of the can lid. I was thinking of doing this because I think I can more easily get to some of the terminal block screws found in industrial control panels, as well as on motor drives and other devices. Sometimes I just go in with my leatherman and SAK (plus a meter, scope, and laptop :) ), and the leatherman can be kinda klunky. Or I'll be away from my toolbox. I don't need a can-opener very often, and if I do, I have plenty of others available. Besides, everyone else was modifying their SAKs, and I was feeling left out!:D

My SAK that gets the carry is definately the Tinker. Close in second place is the Mini Champ. I would really like to carry my Soldier more but it's a bit too heavy for my liking. I have the Cadet which I also like, but the blade hits the piece of handle that the lanyard loop attaches too and it dulls the blade. The next one on my list is the ALOX version of the Bantam if I can find one.

I always have a Victorinox Ranger with a Photon II clipped to it in my pocket.
It has my most used tools all in one compact package.
Plus, it's quite a bit smaller than the huge ones with every "nonessential" tool on the planet.

Pizzini has them.

That depends, for EDC a tinker is my favorite. If I'm having a "Honey do" weekend or vacation (Honey do this, honey do that...)I carry the Swisschamp XLT to decrease the number of trips back and forth to the tool box. Between the XLT and a Swisstool, most small jobs can be handled. Unfortunately, these are heavy, bulky tools that require belt wear.

I don't know if I'm ready for a "live" SAK, with all those different tools. Did you guys just dive in or did anyone start with a SAK "trainer" and where would I find one?;)

lol Rob!!!!! your in luck!!!!!!!!

well you know they actually, victorinox that is, come out with a trainer!!! they call it "my first sak", it has a main blade with a rounded tip for safety!!! it resembles the bantam with a "spatula" shaped tip!!!

me....I trained on a huntsman from my Dad. Now though you can get a trainer!!! ;)

Swisschamp XLT

Heavy? Yes
Belt Carry? Yes
Like it that way? Yes

It's nice because the sheath is so wide, on your belt it looks like a pager...

I can't believe that nobody has mentioned the Classic. It's probably the biggest selling knife in history.

My favorites are the Classic, an old Cadet w/ 2 blades or a Wenger Esquire for most days. For travelling I carry an old (no hook) Climber. In my briefcase is a white Ranger.

I do have a Classic and like it well enough. But frankly I think that model ought to be rendered obsolete by the Rambler. It won't, of course. The Classic is just too ubiquitous. But the Rambler's a better knife.

a Tinker, a Rambler and an old Wegner my Grandpa gave me, the Tinker sees the most carry time. The Wegner is heavy and has more than I really need and the Rambler is still MIA from a move last year.

At this time I have with me the One Handed Trailmaster and a signature ll lite and they have all the things that I need.
