SAK questions

Been doing some research.

The Cadet, Cadet II or Bantam look like a very nice fit.

$12.50 for a Cadet??? Amazing!

Interesting...it looks like the file on the Cadet is kind of tapered at the tip--like you could use it as a philips driver.

Off topic: the dryer is an Amana gas model, which Consumer Reports recommended, though they were aware that it is pretty hot. I keep it very clean/clear of lint.

The Trekker is a slipjoint knife like all other SAKs but it also has an additional anti-closure device similar to a liner lock but this liner type lock doesn't actually keep the blade held open...that's left up to the "slipjoint" part!

Just a small clarification... The liner lock on the Trekker, and a few other 111mm models, works just like a regular liner lock to lock the knife in the open position. The difference is that a backspring is used to hold the blade closed, like on a slip-joint, instead of the ball-detent that is found on most liner locks.

Most 111mm Victorinox models use a different mechanism known as "side lock".

Just an update: I received the Alox Cadet in silver a few days ago.

What a wonderful knife! It somehow feels more solid than my Recruit...not sure why. It is certainly thinner and easier to pocket.
Quality appears first-rate.

I may order a few more of the copper versions for Christmas gifts.

Here is the bad news: I am already checking out other SAKs. Soldier (look beefier than the Cadet), Midnight Manager, Rambler, Trekker, etc.
This is bad...I can feel the $$$ being sucked right out of my wallet...damn.

Many thanks for leading me down the road of bankruptsy!

As someone stated above, Victorinox will replace those warped handles FREE! Even though they say they will replace only for failure of workmanship or material and not due to "abuse and misuse", they will actually fix or replace any knife without question... I have actually dropped a knife and busted the handle, sent it in and they replaced both handles at no charge... I have sent knives in 3 or 4 times over the years and they provide great service!
