SAK soldier (or pioneer) too much to take to an office setting?

As I understand it, the key issue with many "intent" laws is to allow for the discretion of the arresting officer. Doesn't matter if the charge sticks or not. But it give the officer a legal mechanism to put somebody in cuffs, in a cruiser and off the street for the time being. All this to say... I don't worry much about intent laws or even all out bans. Just don't be a jerk, avoid getting bar fights and use discretion. Boston has strict local ordinances and I go there all the time while treating that law like a speed limit. Obviously, YMMV.

I generally carry an Opinel 9 in my RFP and a Leatherman Micra in my LFP as my EDC carry. If I sense that the Opinel is going to bother somebody, I just the Micra.

IMO, the SAK is almost universally recognized and almost universally understood as a non-weapon. The bigger SAKs like the updated Soldier might be a problem. But not the smaller slip joints.

Carry and be happy but don't call me if you get tangled up with the Mounties! :D

Depends on your office. In my opinion, even people who are anti-knife seem to readily accept a SAK. Maybe due to an unhealthy affinity for MacGyver, or maybe it's the fact that they seem harmless due to the red scales. Who knows?

Yeah I can't think of a time when I have seen someone scared of a SAK. It seems that it's pretty universal SAK = Tool, not weapon. Everything Other Knife (especially fixed blades, one hand opening) = Potential Weapon it feels like at times. Though in general I personally go with the red plastic handle SAK's as those are the ones more commonly seen. In fact I didn't even know they made them in alox till the last few years and I was always more into knives than anyone I knew. I have never seen an alox SAK in a store in my entire life, so a red plastic or alox handle may be the way to go so people are familiar with it as red is goes hand in hand with SAK's just like Ferrari Red goes with Ferrari's.

Most people in an office setting are more accepting of a Swiss Army Knife than of another knife of the same size and function... it is as if the Victorinox/Swiss Army name instantly pacifies people.

A SAK Pioneer Harvester or Farmer I consider the perfect backpacking (urban or rural) folding knife.

Yes, definitely.

Attitude is everything.

Don't wave under the nose of timid "Timmy" while cackling.

But at the same time, don't apologize over and over again for using it. It's a simple pocket knife.

The classic Swiss cross will make it instantly acceptable in 99.99999% of the cases.

Yes, to the Alox scales. No problem. The scales only come on the middle and smaller SAKs. I used to carry my SAK on planes all the time and nobody ever raised an eyebrowl. Can't do that anymore. But in an office, I get the scales you like the best. With the Alox scales, you generally loose the tooth pick and tweezers, hence I go with the plastic scales because I used both of these accessories often.

Only if it ejects onto the floor or under the car seat.

I prefer having lanyards on my pocket knives for this reason. Slows the ejects, makes it easier to fish them out of my pocket and (with red) makes it easier to find the MIA knife in the grass.
