SAK Steel?

Also, I can not see why the Victorinox blades would be rejected by Puma. From what is written here the only difference is in HRC. Puma at 57-58, where as Victorinox leaves it at 56 (or 55-56 as in their FAQ). Of course if Puma wants them to be higher on the HRC scale...

EXACTLY (see bold above). If you read through dePaul's posts, you will see that Puma tests every blade, and rejects them if they are too soft. That's why I said that Puma would reject blades that Victorinox uses. Nothing meant by it, just that that is the way it appears.

As for 1.4116, I happened to be looking through some DeltaZ knives yesterday, having run across something in another thread about them. I looked at 1SKS to see if they carried them, and saw that the blade steel was 1.4116. Or maybe it was Knifecenter of the Internet where I saw it. Anyway... all stainless steel (no damascus) DeltaZ knives have 1.4116 blades. Which appears to be nothing more than plain old U.S. 420. Not even 420HC. No wonder DeltaZ knives are still inexpensive, even with premium quality handles!

Hugo, i know that i have some more information at home, but not with me right now. I'll try to look it up and to keep you informed. WHAT i know is that Bonpertuis and Marttiini celebrated their 50 years of cooperation about two years ago. There was an article about it in "La Passion des Couteaux" and Pierre Reverdy made a celebration lappinleuku knife as a gift from Bonpertuis to Marttiini. The blade had a damascus design showing dancing reindeer in a snowstorm and was made using his usual EDM-cutout-process to make the "mosaic damascus" support blocks.

And, rockspyder, at 90000 (ninety thousand!) knives DAILY (most of them with more than one blade), i think that Victorinox would have a hard time testing every blade. And costwise they are in another class than Puma, too. For the price, i think, the quality of them is quiet amazing.

Well, yeah, that's a given.

I don't know about that. For the cost, they are quite convenient. For the sheer number of knives they are putting out, the quality is quite amazing, though. Heck, I own at least 4 of them, so I will never say that Victorinox or SAK are not good knives. But I will say that they have the softest blades in any knife that I have, except my Spyderco Military and Native.
