SAK Tools

In Northern Europe most premium beers come bottles with a metal cap. The cheap 2nd rate beers more generally have a screwcap. It's a selling point for them. So I'm using my cap lifter daily.

As I like cooking the can opener sees use also. Especially smaller cans come without a opening ring.

As I like wine beter with some foods than beer the cock screw sees regular use also.

I've carried SAKs around for decades, longer than I can remember but I really can't remember the last time I used the bottle opener. Very very few bottles in Oz, or at least the bit I come from, need a bottle opener. Is this true for your part of the planet?

I used the can opener at work a couple of months ago on a can on which the ring pull tab thingy had broken off. Apart from that, like the bottle opener, I can't remember the last time I used it. How about you?

Do you find either of these tools useful? Do you use them often, or are they little more than ornaments?

I use the bottle opener on beer bottles quite a bit (hic!). And the can opener is my go-to in the kitchen. Ornaments? No way. Both are VERY useful to me. Not to mention the handy screwdriver tip on each.

Now, as we all know SAKs have a variety of tools built into them. Quite often these will include a can opener and a bottle opener.

I use both of those tools often.

I've found the corkscrew to be very valuable, too. I have at least four SAKs of various types/sizes, and I think I've used all the tools (except the sewing hole in the awl).

I mainly use the large screwdriver/bottle opener blade for light prying, or even using the bottle-opener 'hook' to also pry open some stubborn lids (not bottle tops, though).

I used to use the can opener feature a lot, but now it seems a lot of the cans have a pull-ring which negates my need for the feature, though I'm glad it's there. Back when I was a stenographer, I sometimes used the can opener as a hook to pull the ribbon in the machine when fixing it. The can opener's screwdriver gets plenty of use from me.

I like the awl, esp. the one on the Soldier/Pioneer. I use it mostly for scraping.

The knife blades I use mostly for slicing fruit or opening light packaging. I tend to not use them for hard cutting.

On my Executive, I use every single feature except the keyring. Some of the tools (scissors, nail file) I use almost every day.

I love my SAK hunter, especially for opening up Corona Beer Bottles with the can/bottle opener.;)
