The only real problem I have with the Vic Farmers, & Pioneers is that little stud that holds the key ring. It tends to poke or rub the palm of my hand. Maybe it's just me, but probably not.
Anyway if you put on a larger / thicker ring it fixes that problem for me. It fills in around the stud so that the stud doesn't stick out higher than the ring. Plus I like the look of the heavier ring.
I looked for heavier rings at the local hardware store but heavier always meant bigger around.
Then I found these. If you don't live where they sell salt water or heavy duty fishing gear you may have to order them. These rings are HEAVY DUTY stainless steel. I have streached out a couple of the regular key rings pulling on lanyards, but not these babies, they have a 220 lbs rating.
They are not easy get on, you have to pry them open and work them around. Needle nose pliars help.
The smaller ring in the picture is the original vic ring that came with the knife.
I'm sure I'm not the first to put on a bigger key ring, or even use these but I have not seen it mentioned here before. So here it is with pictures

I upgraded the ring on my leatherman squirt, the ring they provide is tiny.
I never experienced any hand-poking from it, but the ring barely fit on my quick release key chain.

so I stole a ring from an sak :)
