I put the old swiss army knife away a long time ago in favor of a more robust lock back with better edge retention. But I've become curious as to what steel they actually use in them? It does take one hell of a keen edge (that I remember) but it doesn't last that long, and I've yet to see a speck of rust form; and its been many years. So is it like 420j2 or hc or something?

Thanks! I think I've referenced that page before, never noticed the INOX setion though.

Okay, it does not hold an edge like the modern 'super steels' but I don't
care. a couple of strokes on the Sharpmaker and it's back to perfect!!!

Victorinox steel is very good & will handle almost all cutting needs. I am not sure on Wenger as I have none of them.

I opened a container of chemical with a Victorinox and got some on the blade and it popped the chrome plating right off. The steel did not "appear" to be stainless underneath the chrome plating but I guess it was. Are all Victorinox knife blades stainless with chrome plating?
WOOK

Strange, never heard of that before:confused:

Are you sure that was a Victorinox? I've never seen one with a chrome plating, or any other coating for that matter.

I've never seen a true Victorinox that did not have solid stainless steel blades. No plating.

Are you sure about the authenticity of the knife?

Thanks for the correction, I fixed that sometime ago. I still have to update the webpages. That particular webpage is undergoing a major edit right now to fix some minor issues as well as update and reformat some sections.
