SAK's Are only Medium Duty Knives

Verrry kool knifematerial!
Wonderful for the "great collection".
No doubt, it could improve edge holding for some.
However I would simply hate to have to weigh in the price factor of damasteel and havin' to think doubly hard each time before pulling out such a knife for actual use!!!

"swissbianco" would there ever be one made entirely from titanium (scales and all)??!

its swedish damasteel the production run will be, i will update as this happens, its an collaboration between victorinox and swissbianco.

no, there was never one made complete out of titanium, i did some scales and blades from different materials as meteorite, ats34 and damascus.

however, living now in the usa, theres an verry good chance i make my own versions of the swiss army theme with modern steelblades from latrobe & crucible.

What about a farmer with a one hand opening main blade? I carry a farmer everyday and the only thing I would like to change is I want a one hand opening blade in the farmer package. Same size, just a thumb hole on the blade. If you could make it lock, i'd be in heaven.

SAKs with damascus blades? That's pretty cool. If Swissbianco starts making SAKs with newer, higher-end steels, that's going to be something interesting. And you live in the ATL? Knifemaking in Atlanta, who woulda thunk it?

yes from switzerland to atlanta, in that area are some good us knifemakers, no joke.

please allow me some time to get established here, im joust 11 days in country and allready had the immigration, atlanta distributor show, social security # office meeting and ga id made, next week the ga drivers lizense and pick up some firearms for my beloved targetshooting. oh i vorgot the jetlag too, longest travel i ever had, cause immigration.

but i guarante, after get started in usa, theres many nice things coming and sure we will make an sak style knife in usa that holds an edge way better using state of the art bladesteel & heattreating.

I live outside of Atlanta. Let us know when you are set up.
Will you be doing knife sharpening?

Also, Atlanta does do shows of knife makers. Unfortunately they don't advertise them too well so I never know where or when they are.

I even contacted a knife maker club and asked them to add me to their email list - nothing happened.

SAKs are very cool.
Damascus is very cool.

But SAKs with Damascus? I don't know; it seems sort of like doing expensive performance mods to a '94 Dodge Caravan . . .

The beauty of a SAK to me is it's simple utility.

"swissbianco"
no 100% titanium?
that's too bad.
a pity that something can't be done about having a 100% ocean goin' SAK.
why should overlanders have all the fun?
please consider havin' somethin' specifically for "old sea dogs".
there are times when a SAK sized wire striper and screw driver could come in handy beneath the waves.

these are intersting times we're livin' in.
one is the climate change in which the world is goin' thru.
it won't happen overnight but...
melting polar caps = more rain fall
more rain fall = rising tides/sea levels
"waterworld" might turn out to be more than just some entertaining hollywood science fiction movie.
i m ready to hold my breath and see what you can come up with :-l

"Siguy"
sorry, missed your reply!
True, the Opinel is the quintenssial "penny knife".
brought it up merely because we were discussing cutting abilities for lower end knives.
in my books, the French know what frugal is.

The South African Okapi knives have decent carbon steel blades. But that's all, really. Aesthetically, they're pretty rustic, which seems to appeal to some folks.
