Yeah Rev,I think they're running out of warehouse space to store these little things that folks forget they have on a key ring.:D

Washington (CNN) -- The former head of transportation security said Wednesday he supports a new policy allowing small knives on planes, but said it does not go far enough, and should include instruments such as "battle axes (and) machetes."
It's cool guys, but bring your spyderco battle axes instead. Those probably have a better a chance of being TSA compliant in the future than the LadyBug.

Try to keep it as cheap as possible, please. Because I just know that some noob is going to take it away, even if it does meet the requirements.

We spoke with the TSA regarding getting approval for a design before the expense of tooling up. They said they wouldn't do that. That it will be dependnt on the discretion of the TSA officer checking. They also said that if the character was suspicious looking, then they could confiscate even a "compliant" knife. Seems like a pretty vague "law"? Typical.

Hhhmmmmm.

(also posted on the Spyderco site forum).

I will say that we're working on a design, but we do more than just design a compiant knife. We have to "guess" what might be a problem.

They are the TSA, they don't need laws. Five minutes on YouTube will prove that.

Anyone that thinks they're going to have the absolute right to carry even the smallest pen knife on board a commercial flight is under a false assumption imho.Even if you're allowed on board with a tiny SAK type key-chain knife, should you actually take said knife out in flight to open a tiny snack bag in the presence of a hyper sensitive passenger that becomes alarmed you may end up in an unpleasant incident.I will continue to carry my knife in the check in bag as usual.

Have you thought about putting a flipper on the knife? Something like on the PITS folder over at BB, where the flipper opens the knife partway, and you thumb it open the rest? Because it would be pretty difficult to have a fully functional Spyderhole on a blade a half inch or less wide.
And if you're looking for suggestions, I might as well throw the idea of an oversized handle out there, too.

I think that we will have to let this play out. TSA is probably leaving themselves 'Wiggle Room' in the new guidelines. I'd guess that the first few weeks under the guidelines will tell how stringent they will be. I just wish that they would clearly define 'Molded Handle'. Does a simple curved handle with a single curve to it count as 'MOLDED'? If they leave it up to each TSA agent to set their own standards, it's going to be a total goat rope.

I've read a new article or two about the TSA taking heat for the potential allowance from Pilot groups and other groups dealing with air flight. It might flop somewhere along the way.

Some of you predicted TSA might change its mind. Not sure which way they'll ultimately go, but they've just delayed the rules change that was supposed to take place this Thursday.

Supposedly the delay is "in order to accommodate further input from the Aviation Security Advisory Committee." Ya think maybe the ASAC is telling the TSA to allow "molded handles" so that we can carry on our Spyderco bugs?

I think it has more to do with the hyper-vigilance that is common after any sort of attack. I'm guessing that that the TSA doesn't want to be seen as loosening security at this time.

What's right in this country is the head of a company taking the time to listen and respond to customers.

What's wrong in this country is the fact that the tsa can make a "law" as ill defined as this.

I Started a thread a while ago asking if there were any spyderco knives which would comply. I think the molded handle is the most nonsensical requirement of the bunch.
