Hello Sal!

I've always been interested in your Moran fixed blade knife, and suddenly it seems to be a lot cheaper than it used to be. Could you tell me why? Does it still have a real "Moran" concave edge? Are all the materials the same as they were?

I think I may be buying my first Spyderco knife!

Thomas,

I'm sure Sal will jump in to clarify but my understanding is that as Spyderco's first (non-kitchen) fixed knife it was very labor intensive to produce, hence the original MSRP. Unfortunately at that price point it did not sell well. Recently Spyderco reduced their MSRP and wholesale price to a point not all that much above cost. At this point sales have markedly increased.

I'm very fond of the knife with my sons and I owning 5 of them. Knowing that only a small portion of the owners market acquires aftermarket sheaths, and that there are several makers (Edge-Works, Bob Dozier, Tim Wenger, etc.) offering custom Spydie Moran sheaths, I have nevertheless been astounded at the demand Scott at Edge-Works has experienced for his offerings. Given my involvement as his first Moran customer and the postings I have made, I continue to receive numerous e-mails about the sheaths. Just in the last 24 hours I have received e-mail from Australia and South Africa about orders having been placed!

Unquestionably Spyderco has a winner. And yes, it is flat ground with a concave edge in the Bill Moran tradition. Handle materials and VG-10 steel remain unchanged. The only variations were serial numbers for the initial 1000 (I believe) pieces and the option of a Bob Dozier designed kydex sheath at one point over the leather. All current product is unserialized and with the leather sheath.

Just a minor correction here: Don't you (Thomas and Bob) mean convex, rather than "concave"?

You're a good salesman, Bob. You ought to get a commission on both the knives and the sheaths.

Thanks Bob! I change the style of my beard and mustache every once in a while, because it's the only hair on my head! (Except my eyebrows, and what can you do with eyebrows?). I don't mind unserialized! Sold!

David thanks for the correction, I can't decide right this second which is correct, but I'm sure you're right. Let's see, "vex" is to be mad, and "cave" goes into the hill, so that means.... oh well.

James, James, Can you hear me? I'll be ordering one of these on Wednesday!

Thanks Sal, for making the knife! I'm sure I'm going to love it!

Thomas

Thomas,

Whew, same problem here. Just don't comb the eyebrows up

! And how much success do you have finding barbers who stock caranuba wax? Hell since they only cut 1/3 a head, I at least expect them to be properly prepared to give me a quick buff 'n shine <hehehehe>.

By the way, you're quite welcome!

David,

Ya caught me. Indeed I meant convex and not concave. And as for commissions, I like to think that the enjoyment I get from these products and the faith you folks place in my honest evaluations as posted here in enough.

Remember too that Sal has promised me a Spydie knife (I asked for a military) for taking his "cherry" here on his new forum. (I owe a photo with knife for posting here upon receipt.) That sure is a nice payback. Scott, at Edge-Works, has teased me about going on the payroll (all in good humor mind you) and in my normal fashion, I tease back that "we'll talk" and move on to other topics when we talk on the phone.

Seriously, what these forums are all about is an honest exchange of information, experiences, and opinions. If something I post helps folks discover a great product, the fact that I helped is payback enough for me.

Bob, take the commission, you deserve it!
I've been tipped over the edge on a couple of things because you sold me with your enthusiasm and great descriptions. Now I'm waiting for my Edge Works Moran sheath, c'mon Scott, pitch it to me, baby !
Hey, wait a minute, maybe you're really Sal Glesser, Scott Evans and Rob Simonich ! Could it be ?

Brian,

! Believe me those guys you mention stand tall enough on their own. I'm just a knifenut like most of the forumites. But like Gene Sederholm says: "Ain't this place GREAT!?!?!?"

Sal,

That's a good one too. Another I like but usually strikes folks wrong is the lament:
"I'm heavily armed, easily bored, and off the medication..." Yikes!

Hi all. A bit more about the Edge Works Moran sheath. I am extremely pleased with the work of Scott Evans and his crew for providing me with one of these sheaths. Scott made great efforts to have it made to my specs and their customer service is tops.
Scott, thanks for a great product and the service to back them up! Bald, thank you!

Nakano
