Hi Sal,

I know you are a very busy man with a lot on your plate. Lots of knife models, lots of sprint runs, and lots of things noone knows about yet. However I would like to throw out an idea.

I know that a lot of spydercos become more popular after discontinuation and the Tuff is no exception.
However I feel like a lot of people that now have had a chance to handle one really love it. Every chance I get I can't praise it enough. A lot of my customers have become good friends and they all tell me how bad they really want a Tuff. They keep trying to get me to sell or trade one of mine to them. I personally have 4 of them and I use and carry 2 of them regularly.

I think a great Tuff sprint run would be with Maxamet steel with charcoal grey G10 with a deep diamond pattern in it with a matching pattern on the titanium side.
Sprint run of 500 units to start. I think these would sell out really fast. I know I would pick up at least 2 or 3 myself. Most everyone I talk to that currently owns a Tuff said they would also buy at least 2 sprint run Tuffs.
Plus I'm sure there are a lot of people that missed out would love another chance to own this incredible knife.

Maxamet is a very nice tough steel like the 3v. It would give you a chance to work with it again in a workhorse of a knife like you did with the Manix FRN. Also like the FRN Manix, I think the charcoal grey G10 would be a nice match with the grey titanium framelock. Diamond pattern is awesome to look at while also providing excellent grip without being a pocket ripper. I know that personally from the diamond pattern Ive made and have been carrying for the last few months.

I'm actually making a charcoal grey diamond pattern G10 scale for a Tuff this week so I could provide a pic to show how great it would look. I think this will help people like me who are very visual people.

I would love to hear your thoughts on this here or in email.

I would also love to hear people post if they would be interested in a Sprint Run Tuff in Maxamet steel with diamond pattern charcoal grey g10 with matching diamond pattern on the framelock side.
Post what you think of the idea, if you would buy one, and how many.

I'm with Eric on this, Just about any scale combo would work for me as long as it's not a pocket shredder.

I'd love to see a new tuff. I'd opt for an easier to sharpen carbon or tool steel. Bring back 3v, or eveb 4v! maybe psf27 or get some pd1.

Only issue I'd see with this is that the Tuff is made in Taiwan, and their maxamet stuff is all USA made so far.

3v is made by crucible which is an American company. So why not do it the same way they did with that steel. Ship them the steel or make the blades here and ship them to Taichung.

I say keep the 3V steel, and just do a different scale.
The knife was pretty much perfect as it came out originally.

I'm for a new run of the Tuff. I'd prefer the 3V however; I think that's part of what makes the Tuff tough. I'm flexible on the scales.

I love the 3v too but I think if it's a sprint run it should have a different steel.
Maxamet has crazy toughness and a high rcw at 68-72. And unlike the 3v, Maxamet has crazy edge retention passing that of cpm 10v.
Similar corrosion resistance as the 3v.
Pf27 or 4v or Maxamet

I wonder what it'd cost, given how much harder maxamet must be to work with than 3v.

I can't say that I've ever even held a Tuff, but I dig the looks. Would probably be a pack knife for me, given the weight.

This. ^^^
3V with a regrind. I had 2 done at RazorEdge and they are simply the best slicers I've ever owned.

Maxamet has relatively low toughness and high wear resistance.

I don't think that maxamet properly fits the theme of the Tuff, plus it would be extremely expensive. The Tuff was never a cheap knife and with a big slab of Maxamet it would likely be over $300 street value. I like the knife and I'd buy a sprint, but I'd rather have it in 3v or Cruwear.

It seems like most discussions of maxamet are about abrasion resistance at low toughness, so not a good fit for a Tuff. Other than that I don't have much to add, other than the Tuff is a great knife (I have two) and a sprint run should have a tough steel - Cruwear would be a great choice, 4v, Vanidis 4e, another 3V run, even M4.

I hD 90% of my knives stolen, among electronics, tools, and electronics. 60k worth.

I really really miss my old TUFF workhorse and my sexy Phoenix. ;_;

I'm just curious. Why is everything I've read talk about how much tougher maxamet is than D2, M4, and many other tool steels.
