Sal please make a Micro-Manix!

 Seriously, what the hell is that thing. Looks like it has a compression lock, but no Spyderhole.

When he posted those pics on the Spyderco forum, he said it was a custom piece with a form of compression lock, but didn't drop any hints about the maker. Put a spyderhole on that puppy and I'm in

yes, i see some people agree with me. the mini manix is way too big for edc purposes. for a LEO or to pack for camping/hunting/etc. it's a nice size but it's hardly a "mini" knife for urban dwellers like me. i'm not gonna whip out an almost 8" knife (open) to open a ups package.

for me, the caly3 is the perfect size but i want the bulletproof feel of a manix or lil temp. you see i actually thought the lil temp was lil until i tried to fit that thing into my pocket. yeah it's "small" at around 7" open BUT when closed it's a bit over 1.5" wide and a max of 4.5" long (and the manix and mini manix are almost 2" wide and 5" and 4.5" long respectively, when closed)

these are NOT small knives. lets compare these knives to another one in my edc rotation, the combat elite RRF. closed it's 4" long and 1 1/8" wide. open it's 7.5" long. titanium framelock means it's light. no wonder i find myself carrying this one more than my spydies. the only thing i don't like is that i got the AO version and the flipper kinda scares me. i always think something is gonna catch on the flipper and make it open in my pocket...

and yes, that custom manix-looking knife that was posted is awesome. more info please!

What about the Caly3 makes it difficult to feel confident in its strength?

I think it is the width of the knife at the tang/blade join, and a little because of the blade thickness, at least for some. The thin blade (assuming it is the same thickness as my UKPK) doesn't bother me, but I like the width of the Manix/Mini-Manix at the finger choil. I would settle for the older Caly Jr. in flat ground S30V and G-10 with full liners and no swedge. :D

I haven't handled any Caly models myself yet, but from the pictures I've seen it always looked strong for a folder that size to me.

The "micro" has a 2 13/16" long blade, 1/8" thick, 440C. Handle is a tad over 4
inches. I too like the blade and handle shape of the Manix. A great pocket size. I showed it here to demo to the boys in Golden what a great idea it would be to make one this size.

I made this knife myself, no i don't make them to sell. Hobby only!

I would never pry with it because it is very thin towards the tip of the blade, and that would snap faily easily in a prying situation, but I'd never question its strength in any other situation.

well for me it's not about the caly3 being weak. it's about having a knife that size that's overbuilt. the lil temp was close to this in concept but like the mini manix, IMO it's WAY to big for a true EDC. i want an overbuilt caly3 with 5/32" thick blade and MBC rated lock but that's not to say that i don't love my caly3. i just want a TRUE mini manix.

Hey thanks. I can't get to it. It says I'm not logged in when I am. When I try to log in again it takes me back to the same page saying I'm not logged in. *sigh*

sign me up

Me to. I like the idea of a Micro Manix. The one that gull wing made looks great. A lock back would be preferred but I would settle for a frame lock or BB lock. Of course, I would be easily satisfied if they would change the blade steel on the Caly 3 to S30V.

although the blade shape is not a full flat grind, would the Nav2 fit the bill as an alternative micro manix? a small heavy duty user.
