Sal, will this ever be a possibility for the Military.

Just a quick question for Sal. The military is by a country mile my favourite spyderco. Just wondering if it could ever possibly get the same revamp as the recent new Manix 2 back lock. A Military with the exact same setup, solid floating pin through the lock bar and larger T8 torx would be an amazingly capable knife. It would probably be the only knife I'd ever need, i would by 3 of them. I think I wouldn't be alone on this either :)

Thanks for your time.

PS. An LC200N sprint would be unreal.

A "SALT Military"... sounds like a great concept but the liner lock should be reworked to make it easier to operate with gloves underwater

Edit: as I write it I realise it is quite close a what a Pacific Salt 2 may be

Have you handled/considered a Police 4? It's not exactly the same thing that you are asking for, but I feel like it's not far off and it's readily available. K390 steel as the standard steel is pretty sweet IMO

Hi Mick,

The Military is a large, very light capable folder. Designed for soldiers to have easy carry with a lot of cutting capability. We have several Millie 2's designed, but haven't put them into queue yet. Lock-backs have some very nice features, like the self close, but they add weight. The next Millie designed has stop lock. Eric is considering one with a Compression lock to keep it light weight.

I am in loud and vocal agreement with the back lock Millie idea. I want two.

I do not know about the stop lock. I will wait to see.

Thanks for getting back to me Sal. I think whatever direction you go in with the Millie 2 you're going to sell an absolute ton of them, i'd bet almost everyone that owns a Military would buy another couple of them, please give them a little bump closer to the top of your queue, we're all dying for more Millies :)

After 34 radiation treatments to my head at times I forget my own name. I should know what a stop lock is, but can someone remind me ?
Thanks, Tom I think.

It's a refined version of the Powerlock. Which is on the Tatanka.
I got the feeling the Powerlock wasn't a Spyderco patent. Where as the Stop lock is Patented by Spyderco.

Just a heads up, they have gone to bigger screws and a floating stop pin on the newer Militaries.

I look forward to the Military2. :)

More on the Stop lock. It looks to be skeletonized and light weight. The blade locking device looks smaller than the Powerlock and the back lock bar is a skinny bar in the thumb depression.

Forgive my ignorance, but how does a back lock add more weight than a liner lock when there is no need for the liner?

If there were no liners what would the back lock pivot on? Scales are too soft on their own.

Have you seen the Manix 2 back lock or the Cold Steel Triad Locks without liners?

Different intended use.

Job1 for the Military is hard use. Those other knives are in a different category.
Not sure i understand what you're saying, are you saying the Cold Steel recon 1 and Manix 2 back lock aren't meant for hard use? The Recon 1 is probably THE toughest hard use folder out there pound for pound, it's basically Cold Steels sole purpose when building folders. And the Manix 2 backlock is an extremely strong design, if you haven't seen the hardware that makes up the back lock on it i suggest you google it cos you will like it, it's thick as bricks and the tang locking notch is much deeper than Spyderco's other back locks, plus the blade stock is even thicker than the previous manix, it's one of their toughest designs so far.

Yes i know, the confusing part was where you said:

"job1 for the military is hard use" - then you went on to say the recon and manix are a different category, when in fact that is their primary category.
