Take a look at this crap:

RH posted it in the general discussion forum. These bastards are ripping off the dyad.

To the rest of the forumites:
If you didn't hate S&W from all their other crap, I hope this will show you another of their wonderful traits

Well it sure looks dyad-ish (they even have a small one ! and by the way I love my micarta mini-dyad))

On the other hand I am quite happy with my S&W 686 in 357 magnum !

I'm with TOTC (Just can't bring myself to write that phrase.)

I've talked to some custom knifemakers whose patterns seem to have been, uh, "burrowed" by production companies (one of 'em by Taylor Cutlery, come to think of it), and they explained to me how difficult it is to prove that the original was really copied. Even slight changes could make it really difficult to prove a case.

That said, if anyone deserved a lawsuit -- not just over this dyad-alike, but other knives in their catalog as well -- Taylor Cutlery does.

It would seem to me that after this much time, and this many blatantly ripped off designs, that it would be easily demonstrated in court that Taylor has a propensity for theft of intellectual property.
I have no idea if that angles ever been tried, but I'd think it was worth the shot.

I'm in no way defending these rip-off artists, but lets face it, the people who buy these POS's don't buy quality cutlery anyway, so companies like Spyderco aren't losing any business.

Kutch-

imagine someone buys a knock off piece of crap not knowing any better. They break it later or they realize it sucks.

Later their friend is looking at knives, and they say "don't buy those! They suck!" Only instead of pointing at the knock-off they're pointing at a real spydie because they don't know any better. Spyderco can lose customers this way.

I agree that this "cuttin' horse" is pretty crappy. However, even though it is a blatant rip off, the cuttin' horses are designed to be cheap folders that if broken or lost are no big deal. I think that S&W make some decent knives. Certainly not top of the line, but their autos and swat product lines seem to be ok (I still don't understand that scrimshap stuff but..that's another story). I personally have never bought any of their knives, but I have gotten one as a gift. The baby swat air frame is sharp and pretty smooth opening. Not to defend S&W for their rip offs, but I don't think that all of their knives are that crappy.

Taylor Cutlery has no shame ripping off designs and having them made in China. That's why I would never buy anything with their name on it. I remember when they began to sell the SWAT knife, all the boxes read: MADE IN USA, yet on the other side of the pivot pin, it read R.O.C. I hope Sal sues the panties off of Taylor Cutlery.

Yeah yeah yeah, sue sue sue, dirty b##ards, people like that realy p me off, Sal NAIL EM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If nothings done now they'll never learn

Why sue S&W/Taylor? Because they ripped off the Dyad? Taylor is the least of Spyderco`s problems. There are importers who have ripped off the whole Spyderco and Benchmade line! You can ever buy a PRC "Whirlwind" that`s just like the Kershaw, right down to the patented torsion bar system. Why not sue those folks?

First off, it`s really, REALLY expensive to sue on the corporate level. It`s equally difficult to make these cases stick. Takes time and $ better used for R&D.

Also, I don`t care if you know nothing about knives, it doesn`t take much to know the difference between quality and crap. You wouldn`t mistake a Yugo for a Mercedes just because someone stuck a Mercedes hood ornament on it.
