Sal , you created my ultimate folder! Shaman..

I'll always wonder if they meant for the Shaman to be a front flipper. Maybe just a happy little accident.

It wasn't planned as a flipper. Just a heavier duty folder. The blade exposed portion when closed could not be avoided due to the wider blade. I would have to reduce the blade width or make the handle wider to avoid it, neither of which I wanted to do. We did smooth it out to it's not uncomfortable or snagging.

I hate this knife! Ever since i purchased one, I haven't wanted to carry anything else. It's been 3 disappointing years of not being thrilled with any other knife. I don't want to carry my Para2, Endura, Ferrum Forge Arch Bishop 2.0 or any of my Strider knives because of it. I actually just ordered custom Orange G10 handles for my S30V Shaman so that I can use it as my primary Hunting folder.
I know people complain about blade thickness, my response is "get better" The blade is thin enough to process game and fillet catfish. I just filleted a 26 inch Northern pike yesterday (a difficult process) with relative ease. I would never pry with this knife (because I am not a Neanderthal) but if I had to, I'm sure it would be more than adequate.
I am looking forward to the Spyderco Siren because of it's LC200N, but I wish it had a compression lock. This knife has the potential to replace my Shaman as my fishing knife if it is easy to open and close with one hand.

o_O If anything, you should thank Spyderco for saving your money on buying other knives.

It is very functional and does not stick out a bit. But if your good with your thumb its a cool fidget factor .

Left hand model?

Don't hold your breath and learn to adapt. After looking over the knife, I believe it can be opened left handed like the Native Chief that I've got. Now closing left handed is another matter. It can be done on the Chief, but who has that kind of time to learn a new trick, besides, closing any knife with two hands is a lot safer ;)

Not holding my breath, just curious. I don't plan on spending that amount of money for a knife I have to adapt to.

Yep, the Shaman, soon after I got one, became my favorite folder. I seem to always carry one, and I had to track down a Blade HQ dlc m4.

I love them. It's hard to put anything else in my pocket. Sal is a genius.

yeah, I've got a M4 Shaman and I love it. it's the only knife I've ever waited until open for. I've got a couple PM2s that are edc, but the Shaman comes with me anytime I'm expecting the possibility of harder use. i love them equally.

I have a DLC one in S30V on the way. Tired of all the ridiculous secondary prices so just pulled the trigger on a basic. Looking forward to checking it out.

Its a unique knife for sure and if you like the compression lock you will love this. It locks up with more authority than other models with a good clack. It has no problem doing fine work and slices great but has a thicker tip than the PM2/Mili. I really had not idea what it would be like until it was in my hand.

Mostly the ergos are insane and the choil is the right size to fit the meatiest part of my finger.

It carries a little bit like an XM 18 non flipper or Manix 2 in the pocket which I love.

Its not as lefty friendly though for one handed operation.

Im working on a some home projects right now and im curious to test it against the thinner resilience.

It’s interesting that you compare to a Hinderer. I used to have an XM-18, non-flipper. I’ve since sold it. I felt if I ever needed a heavy duty knife again, I’d just get a shaman instead. It reminds me of a hinderer for some odd reason.

It’s a great knife, but feels very different to a Hinderer for me: better cutter but less sturdy. If you are looking for the “Spyderco Hinderer”, try a Vallotton.
