Sal,

Can't resist asking this question . . . haven't seen it elsewhere in the Forums . . . which Spyderco's do you personally carry the most (top 3 models)?

This question reminds me of a time some years ago at a Knifemakers Guild Show dinner when we asked those present to show which knives they were carrying in their pockets. We came out with just about zero custom pieces (bearing in mind they were all long standing custom makers), lots of SAK's, Kershaw's, etc . . . big time bribery material . . !!

Regards, HILTON

If I could have any of them I wouldn't be able to limit it to top 3. Sal even gets to play with the protos, so he has an even bigger choice. It would be like saying which one of your children you love the most!

Hilton, most of the time, I'm carrying and testing prototypes and Concept models. This is some of the refining processes that we go through before going into production. They must be used in every area possible to bring the most "well thought out" model possible to the ELU.

When I'm in a specific activity like whitewater rafting, I'll carry a Delica or Merlin. When flying commercial, it's usually a dragonfly (Carbon Fiber used as money clip) or a Dyad Jr. or a SpydeRench. Sailing; Rescue or Rescue Jr. If we are testing a model specific to one of the above areas, then we would carry the Concept model or prototype. Out in the bush, I would have a FB and a large folder like the Military. Strange places; Civilian and a smaller socially acceptable piece like the Delica or the Calypso Jr (micarta). Basically, I'm a knife nut as well and usually have more than one at any given time. I just have a large collection to chose from.

Sal,
I don't suppose you want to adopt me? 40+ year old Boy Scout with a knife addiction... I am housebroken...

Sal -- how about non-Spyderco knives you carry? (I hope this is not a sacrilegous question

Titan - Occassionaly I'll carry a custom, especially in a FB. (Seans McWilliams forged 440V, Falkniven, etc) I like some of Rekats designs (The folding Hobbit and Frank's Escalator). I am however, rather spoiled by Spyderco's build quality, action and opening hole. Originally Bob Taylor had asked us to make his Hobbit folder in our Golden facility. At the time (and now as well) we didn't have capacity and I was concerened about the reaction to his company name. Bob has convinced me that the name has been accepted (Rekat more than Round eye). Perhaps some time in the future after we get our Rolling Lock going.
