Would I be able to get a Proxy for this Friday, Dec 6 sale at 3pm EST for a Carothers 5" BFK? Thank you.

(By the way, last time I missed a sale, I was told to get a proxy but then at the next sale when I made a request, nobody replied to my request. I didn't know that would happen. I thought it would be a done deal. Is there something to do that helps, like being a paying member? Or is it just luck by someone randomly deciding to show mercy to you?)

Proxy bids are a form of collusion and truthfully ... unfair. I am just one of hundreds, possibly thousands, who are scorn and the maker cares less since all of his knives get sold regardless.

I've lost opportunity at least once due to proxy when I responded within minutes and should have been able to be on the list from the amount of knives available to be sold. CPK knives appear nice but I will never know due to the good ole boy proxy crap and me no longer willing to waste any more of my time actually being there only to be trumped by someone who is not. Thats ok though because for every one of me that won't play the game ... many will.

If I were CPK, I'd price my product accordingly by demand and make more of the profit for myself than to allow the secondary market to make more than myself.

Have fun all ... I am out.

Maybe you should ask Nathan to do preorders on these knives.

Oh wait….

Proxies don't profit - they just do the bid for free, and the requester pays CPK directly at the manufacturer's price.

Why don't you ask for someone to proxy for you, if you haven't burned all the bridges?

Its really not that deep. No doubt if you were a good ole boy one of these many great members would go out of there way for you but you appear too butt hurt to make an effort. Your loss. Eric out.

Do not be deterred. When first introduced to this great company I wanted to punch the computer. I however hung in there and despite being slow to post in most all Nates sales I have still be able to acquire more than I had ever hoped for. I would help ya but will be working. Stay vigilant you will get what you’re after eventually I promise.

Eta-Also being a paying member is always a good thing and never hurts your chances.

Hang in there. After awhile the chase is part of the fun. When I was introduced to CPK it was frustrating. I pretty much just bought stuff second hand as it saves a lot of frustration. Did I pay more than if I got it direct? Yes but I got what I wanted. Did I pay too much for my truck at the dealer? Yes we all do but we get what we want. Nathan tries hard to flood the market with his most popular as you see what's happening with the BFK. The secondary market on those is not much mark up at if any. Same with the latest EDCs. Secondary market they have sold for little to no markup. There was plenty of time to preorder the latest EDC but some people don't like to pay for something and have to wait. I have another maker that is a 10 month plus wait and he requires at least 50% up front. Only thing I can say is try not to get discouraged. The proxy is by no means a guarantee you will get something. If someone picks you up they will try but it goes fast. How I've scored lots of mine on secondary is set notifications to alert me when someone posts a new item in all the fixed blade for sale threads.

Newsflash: responding to a CPK sale “within minutes”, is usually a guarantee that you won’t be in the top 20-40. Heck, refreshing 5 seconds after the Sale thread goes live, will usually drop you out of contention, on new/in demand patterns.

The proxies are cooperation. If you actually bothered to look, there are plenty of cases of members generously volunteering their time/effort to proxy for newbies to the CPK subforum. Is it guaranteed that asking for a proxy, will get you one? No, it’s members volunteering their own time, to make the effort for others who may not be able to.

Yes, regular members/posters in this subforum are more likely to have someone step up to proxy for them, when they make the request, but again, the number of times various members have stepped up for complete newbies asking for a proxy, shows that it isn’t just an old boys/insider exclusive club.

Of course, you improve your chances of someone volunteering their time to proxy for you, when you ask nicely. Lambasting CPK and/or all the folks in the subforum isn’t the best approach.

Why don't you ask for someone to proxy for you, if you haven't burned all the bridges?

Bridges weren't intended to be burnt ... just stating my frustration. Good on all who've benefited from this and will continue to. I won't play along with something I don't condone which is why I said ... I am out. You know what they say about opinions ...

Not questioning the great members here - I completely agree after making ALLOT of transactions. I am not willing to invest any more hours into the quest for a CPK knife. My sole choice will not affect CPK in the least, just as I have plenty of other fine options.

DennisM DennisM I would like to offer to proxy tomorrow for you. I'll get you whatever you'd like. I usually don't have trouble getting in the top 20 of Friday sales. One caveat however...when I score you a knife, you man up and publicly apologize here. There is no conspiracy or good ole" boy network. You have to be fast on the trigger. I, my good man, am one of the fastest internet warriors to have ever participated in online knife drops. Do we have a deal? I'm your huckleberry.

You need to put St. in front of your name!

Frigging generous offer. More proof that people on CPK forums are awesome people.

dtmbinb dtmbinb - although I truly appreciate your kind offer ... it would go against my morals if I accepted. It would be like me finding god only when it's convenient. I hope you understand and do not feel as though I am ungrateful for your generosity. There is another member B bananasushi a few posts back needing a huckleberry that would be more worthy than me.

I will "man-up" and apologize to all on this thread who my opinion has offended. I am sorry ...😟

That's pretty cool of you... I'm guessing that it may not be enough to persuade you to try on another Friday sale. But if you decide at any point to change your mind and find a CPK model you really want to try out in the future, I think many of us would happily step up to give it a go as your proxy... We don't earn anything from it.

Except the free adrenaline rush. And that's why I do it. But that's not the point.

EDIT: B bananasushi I ignored part of Dennis' post like an idiot... If you haven't got a proxy yet, I'm more than happy to give it a go during tomorrow's sale for you.

You posting this shows a lot of character.

I admit I get pissed off about complaints from folks who feel things are unfair, or think sales should be done differently. The reason I get angry is not just because CPK turns out phenomenal knives, but they are awesome people as well. They try to do things fairly, and even change plans to try to accommodate people. They could raise prices but Nathan want people to afford and use knives they make.

The members who frequent the CPK threads are simply great! There is so much support, humor, camaraderie, advice/tips, and simple love of things sharp! Guys who have not even bought a CPK yet are not treated differently than the guys with grail collections.

In addition to the Friday sales, there are other ways to get a knife (as mentioned in other posts). Pre-orders allow more people to purchase and don’t sell out in 15 seconds. I got in on the last EDC pre order using my phone. I have had generous offers to help me by proxy without asking for help. You can also post in the WTB to let guys know what you are looking for.

Again, I think you showed a lot of character in your last post and I suggest that you hang around and experience fantastic knives and people.
