Not sure if this is the proper place for this question, but...

What is the proper protocol if someone claims an "I'll take it" on a forum purchase, but then doesn't contact you? Is there a general rule for length of time I should wait? Again, zero contact in over 12 hrs. I have others waiting in the wings to buy.

12 hours, are you in an emergency room? ......... wait a day or two...and/or send him an email/PM.

If he doesn't contact you in two days, then post that it is still fro sale.

There is nothing written in the rules. Basically it's your sale so it's your choice.

I'm not freaking out, just a question. Any other sale that I've made here is followed quickly by some sort of contact. I just like communication. As far as sending an email/PM, would that I could. The buyer is a registered member and I can not find any contact info.

I was simply asking for some basic forum ground rules.

If I have a knife for sale and someone doesn't pm me within a couple hours of claiming it I let it be known in the thread that it is still available.

Why would someone be able to write a reply in the thread but be unable to send a pm or email?
Communication is essential.

I've started adding "please be able to pay within an hour of claiming, or send me a pm to let me know what you can do" to my sale threads.

I feel like you. I include my email in the sale, so why not communicate? I'm not even talking about payment, just an email that allows the buyer and myself to establish contact outside of the forum thread.

You could always say something like "sold pending funds" or "deal in works." Then you could add something like "message me if interested and if deal falls through you can have it."

That could also line up another customer for you. I've gotten a few customers like that because they've hit me up after it was sold and I told them I could make them one to their specifications(handle material/color, grind, blade finish, etc...).

Sounds to me like he/she said they'll take it, but were waiting for you to say it's theirs. By the time you replied they went to work, school... and haven't been able to check since you said ok. But then again, I haven't seen the thread in question, so I could be way off here.

You make a valid point. It was claimed in wee hours and I didn't see it till 7am.

I've had this happen before as well, which prompted me to place a condition on my thread which reads - "payment within 24 hours appreciated"

Most guys just go ahead and send the funds, and its never been a problem but just that one time. I've seen other makers of high end folders give people a 10 minute timeframe to get payment together.
