Salsa Passaround #3 + Normark Sheath

Thank you Linda for adding yours to the passaround. I was wondering about the Ti Salsa, and now I will know. :)

There will be a slight delay, I received the salsa's back today without them completing the passaround list.

I'll try and get them out next week. Appearantly there was some confusion on who was next.

Blame me folks, I got in over my head:footinmou too many passarounds at the same time.

From now on I'm gonna stick to one at a time.:)

The Salsa was a pretty neat little knife, I liked the Ti one a lot more than the Al one. This knife is not for everybody, the lock was neat, I especially liked the laser cut for the lock bar, I can see how this is a very secure lock and how the Ti would have to fail before the lock would.

I wasn't crazy about the hooded Spyderhole assist, a Spyderco should just have a hole, nothing else, it's perfect in it's simplicity,(I mean the hole).

The blade shape is nice, I've developed a liking for the short wide blades,(like on Spydercos, Dragon Fly, and Calypso, or Boyes Prophet), These shapes of blades, seem to be easier to sharpen.

This is not an EDC knife for me, the hood, and unusual locking style would keep me from grabbing it first. It would be more of a novelty knife for me, I'd buy the Ti version just to add to my collection of unusual locking designs.

Other than that the Al model was pretty dull, but touched up quick, the grind on the Ti model seemed a little uneven,(than again, with all the snow we got 22" to 26" last week I wasn't paying so much attention to anything other than the snow)they both seemed to cut well, I just wasn't bowled over by them.

Thanks, Dave and Linda for giving me the opportunity to check them out with out buying them, and sorry again about the screwup.:)

I had the past few days to play with both Salsa's and the Normark neck rig. First of all the neck rig is very nice. I was amazed how tightly the knife is held without any straps or flaps. The Salsa handle shape is comfortable in my hands but the wide handle makes drawing the knife from my pocket difficult when I am seated. The blade shape is nice for opening mail and other every day chores. The blade is smaller than I normally carry but it did everything I used it for with ease. It truly is a little but big knife. I didn't care for the cobra hood but I did like the traction groves on the back of the cobra hood. During my evaluation I didn't have any problems with the wire clip on the Ti Salsa. Overall I liked the Ti Salsa over the Al one. I think the Al Salsa could do without "Salsa" written on the side. Both knives were nice to use but I don't think I would use one for EDC.

Just letting everyone know that the Salsa's arrived today. I will give them the onceover and most likely send them out Friday.

Thanks again!

Hello all,

The Salsa's are on the way back to Dave. I would like to thank both Dave and Linda for the chance to try them out.

The Salsa's themselves were nice knives. I personally had a few issues with them but my wife liked them a lot. For me the cobra hood would catch on my pocket edge, when I was seated, almost acting as a wave except I did not know it was opening. Also then I one hand opened either of the knives the skin of my index finger would sometimes be pinched by the lock. Both versions would do it but the liner lock Salsa would pinch me the hardest. My wife did not have this problem but with her hand being smaller than mine she held it differently when one handing it.

The blade is a nice utility blade that will not set the sheeple off. Even though both knives were pretty sharp. With the geometry of the blade and some time on the sharpmaker this knife could be a cutting demon. These would make a nice light duty knife where opening boxes, mail, packaging, etc... were the main duty. Fit and finish on both knives were good. Ergonomics were pretty good for such a short bladed knife and the "hood" would give purchase for your thumb for more powerful cuts. The Ti version is basically an all round upgrade with a frame lock in stead of a liner lock and a higher grade steel (ATS-34).

I enjoy these passarounds and feel the shipping cost to be well worth it. Unless you have a store nearby that allows you to handle these knives. The passaround gives you the chance to see/handle/use these knives before deciding to purchase. I would like to thank everyone on these forums who make these events possible.
