I have a problem with my new salsa and was wondering if anyone else has experienced the same thing.when I close the knife the blade strikes the lanyard tube that connects the handle, this deforms the edge and has already put a small cut on the surface of the tube.Is this normal?I could probably sharpen out the chip but I think it would just keep happening.anyone else have this problem?I love this knife and I would hate to have to send it in and wait for repair.any suggestions?

Matt - This does not sound like something you should try to live with. I can understand your reluctance to part with your Salsa even for a short time, but my advice is to bite the bullet and send it it. My own experience with Spyderco warrantee and repair is that you will have your knife back in your pocket in about two weeks.

If they can't fix it, they will send you a new one to replace the one you send them. I believe their policy is NOT to return an unsafe knife, so if you have some particular attachment to that particular knife, tell them about it in your note that you send with the knife explaining the problem.

BTW - which model do you have? I have the Ti Salsa in PE and I love it.

thanks for the advice, mine is the aluminum 8-a blade model.I really love this knife!I hate to send it in but I don't think there is another good alternative.I guess no one else has this problem with their salsa so it must just be mine.

This was a problem with the first production run of Salsas. Contact the warranty dept.

HI Matt. We can fix it. Also, it should go away in two or three sharpenings, if you don't want to send it in. There is only a very slight touch taking place.

You might be able to adjust the ring so that you no longer strike it.
I recall that the construction of the Salsa is like this:
Two handle slab, in which a barrel screw assembly keeps a ring from moving. It is this ring that keeps the wire clip in place. If you remove the barrel screw assembly (It's two pieces), and perhaps loosen the handles slabs a bit, the ring would just drop out. See if you can move it in such a way that you could put the barrel screw back in while the blade doesn't hit that ring anymore.

Thanks for all the advice (from sal and everyone),by the way I think it is so cool to get a responce from the owner of Spyderco.I am such a knife geek!!!Anyway I decided to send it in to have it repaired,I would just screw it up if I tried it myself. It is such a cool knife! I have several knives that just feel right when you hold them and use them and most of them are made by spyderco.
