What is the hottest one can get a salt pot? A great deal of the CPM steels have very high HT temps and I was curious if the salts and salt pots could achieve these temps. Thanks:confused:

The salts themselves have specific working temperature ranges that will vary from product to product. Generally salts are used in a propane forge that will reach whatever temperature desired.

Thanks for the info guys... here is another dumb question. If I am constructing a saltpot setup that will reach 2300° F, what type of stainless should the pot be constructed of? I don't a meltdown. Thanks.

What are you going to do at 2300 F ? You'll have to use 316 at least. There are some other alloys that would work better but are $$$$.....Such things as Inconel 600 !!

10V has some HRC's that require temps in the low 2000 F range. I just do not want to be limited by my equipment once I begin to put everything together.

Mete, Thanks for chiming in, I was actually hoping to hear from you... I have noticed that you are this forum's metallurgical Einstein. Let me know what you think.

Look up www.cashenblades.com and read the info on salt baths. You should also find info with a search on this forum. Make sure you understand all the SAFETY issues.

Mete, thanks for the link... there is a ton of info on salt baths there. I really appreciate it. I have searched the forum for information previously and will make sure to understand all the Safety issues. I don't want to end up any more disabled than I already am. Thanks for all your help.
