With spring around the corner

I spend alot of time in the ocean. Surfing, fishing, boating,etc.....

what knives can handle a few days in a salt water environment?

I have been looking at the spyderco salt, any other decent knives I should look at?

Spyderco was supposed to have come out with some fixed blade H1 utility knives. I handled them at Blade last year and have been hankering for one.

Anyone know more on the Salt Utilities?

You can't go wrong with Spyderco's H1 knives. I've used a Pacific Salt repeatedly in saltwater and no signs of corrosion whatsoever.

I got a benchmade H20 knife. Its my primary dive knife. It seems to have worked pretty well so far, about 2 yrs.

Isn't the Spyderco called "Rock" or something like that, it was featured in a recent Blade magazine, looked pretty cool...

I handled them at the SFO in Golden. Outstanding knives. The latest "new knives" thread over in the Spyderco forum still doesn't give a date and the sheath has been changed completely. Looks bulkier now.

dd,
Benchmade offers this: http://www.knifecenter.com/kc_new/store_detail.html?s=BM100SH2OBLK
in what is essentially their version of H1. IIRC, they called it H1 at one point.

That said, I've used my Spydercos with VG-10 and AUS-8 blades with little regard for rust prevention. I'm not in a saltwater environment but these seem to live up to the "stainless" expectations that I have. I cut anything and everything with 'em and, must admit, I'm terrible about cleaning them. No rust yet.

Orrey, you beat me to it.

We were just talking about this yesterday, is somebody trying to tell me something! The knives mentioned so far seem really interesting, I'll be keeping up.

I got one word for ya Bro..MISSION. Best there is for SW work.Been a fan for years. They just dont wear out.

Mission Titanium knives. A MPK was soaking in a tank of salt water for six years and no rust. The MPK is also a approved by the Navy SEALS.

another navy seal knife? How many knives do those guys carry

SEALS(or any soldier for that matter)can carry any knife he/she likes with in reason. Mission just happens to make knives that are particularly effective in salt water environments.

I've handled all the H1 knives at the Spyderco Outlet. The steel is pretty cool. They replaced the carbon in the steel with nitrogen so it won't rust.

The new Rock Salt looks pretty wicked. Seems similar to the Hossom blades in some aspects.

Nope, the Salt folder are awesome! H1 is a really nice steel. It takes a very good edge easily and it won't rust....ever.
