Sam Lurquin Has Done Something That Is Unprecidented In the World Of Knives

Great post. Great knives. Greater man.

The spirit of giving will come back to him like his dogs. Karma is real.

You guys are fortunate. I understand the admiration.

Fantastic gesture and equally fantastic knives. Sam ranks as one of my favourite knifemakers as the knife style is very appealing to me.
The SL Bowies have so very clean lines and I really like the Harpoon style as well.
I wholeheartedly agree with your sentiments - also in regards to dogs and those who own them.
Being a fomer K9 handler in the service and having had other dogs, I now miss having them around.
I want to Dogos and I want them now!:D

Cats!?...we dont need no stinking cats!! (Kidding!*)

.
*not really;):p

What a great story.. And such a fine craftsman . Very stunning gesture for sure.

WOW! back from blade and still feel like my third blade show was a blur. I am very lucky to have been embraced by the knife community and have wonderful stories through the years. I wish blade was a week not a weekend.

I was one of the proud recipients of Sam's generosity....I'm the guy to the left of Joe P for those of you that haven't seen my mug before

He gifted me a beautiful hunter (said knife is in transit to me for a quick fondle and a pic for you good BF folks... then off to Pappy long for a sheath deserving of such a fine knife)

Sam, I am very proud to call and Frederic friends, I think I may have to take the pilgrimage to Belgium to see you in your workshop in the future!
My deepest thanks and respect to my friends across the pond.

Jeff PS I will post pics when I receive my knife in the mail for all to view :D:thumbup:

A pic from last year's blade show...Sam,myself and Frederic

Got to chime in on this great thread... It was awesome to see Sam again, and once again I am blown away and humbled by this young man. The story of the JS knives is amazing, and all the recipients are lucky devils, but I feel like the luckiest dog of all. I got the pleasure of swapping knives with Sam this year, and he presented me with mine at Blade this year. I might be a tad bit biased, but I think mine was the best of all the bunch:) pics to come soon.

Cool beans - I'll look forward to the pics!

I truly believe that the kind of generosity described in this thread is what the world needs in order to become a better place.

it is the gift of SAM for my 50 years, the pure joy of a real present sincere friendships. it is often close to me, I like to say that the day I leave for the big trip, it will be by my side, purely selfish act but so reassuring.

First off thank you Joe P for starting this thread.

Next I want to thank Sam and his friends for their friendship. In addition I want to thank you, Sam, for your generosity as I received one of the knives as a gift.

Like the others that received gifts from Sam, I was floored, speechless and still in shock. Never has a knifemaker done this for me. It truly shows his character and passion for the blade.

This is one experience I will never forget and will cherish for the rest of my life.

I speak for myself and the others will agree that the knives that were gifts are much appreciated, coming from left field, I truly can say I cherish the friendship with Sam, a true friend and comrade.

- Roger, it definitely has my name all over it. lol

- Yoni, it was very nice to meet you and get to talk a lot this weekend. Look forward in talking with you more and seeing you next year at Blade.

- Adam, I understand that you are a little biase, but I disagree, I have the best knife. lol:)

- Fredrick, I hate you, lol (inside joke, lol):D

I enjoyed talking with Sam and meeting his friends Thursday night. Sam's first class all the way.
I'm looking forward to getting one of his knives.

I have to chyme in here as well. It is obvious Sam has made a great impression on many people in the knife community. Sam is one of the nicest people you could ask to meet, his generosity obviously has no bounds.

I have been anticipating a knife from him for a few years, I had my Eye on one of his TSAVO's. A few emails went out before blade saying that Sam was swamped with work in preparing for his JS Stamp and some home issues and that were preventing him from getting all the knives finished for Blade 2013. It was a little hard to hear but knew his work was worth the wait. The night before Sam left for Blade he sent me an email that stated he had just finished my knife seconds before, I was In shock! We had not talked prices but I knew it would be well worth the cost no matter what it ended up being.

Thursday I was walking down the hall of the Cobb Galleria and who walks up but Sam and his friendly "Crew". Sam pulled me aside and told me he was giving me the TSAVO in trade. The deal is I make a stick tang knife in my style and deliver it to him from my Table at BLADE 2014. How can I refuse that offer?

Sam Thank you very much for your generosity but more importantly your friendship! I look forward to bringing you my best work in 2014!

I also was able to pick up a little brother with some of the money I set aside for the TSAVO!

I was speechless when I heard about this gesture by Sam. Seeing his knives in person really blew me away and showed me why he has this momentum he has behind him. This is topped off by meeting him and experiencing how nice the guy is. I thought all of the JS knives were exceptional but I really wish I could have pulled the trigger on the ivory piece. That knife was something else..

Wonderful stuff guy and I am so thrilled

I can't wait to get my Micarta Tsavo next year

Sam really has everyone's attention and his crew is fantastic :)

Know that I have this beauty I can use my Micarta Hurak a bit harder

Ryan it was great meeting you and your Son

He is a great young man

Sam has a unique talent, a huge heart and very large hands.

Congratulations to Sam on his knives, his J.S. and the massive spirit that he brought to Blade Show this year.

Congratulations as well to the recipients of these knives, they are sure to be most treasured!

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I'm not going to bother annoying everyone by rambling on about the AWESOME monster-slayer that I snagged from him at the show, but I did get a chance to see the knives he brought, the knives that earned him his JS, the George Peck Award, and the knives that he GIFTED to his friends after the test. I'll just put it this way: Sam's kind heart and generosity knows no bounds...
