Usually, our mail person delivers after 3:30 pm. Today, she was at my doorstep around 11:00 am. She must have know what a special package she was delivering.

I'm excited to share some photos of Sam and Joe's Hurak project. Pretty much a treasure for me. As can be expected, the design, fit, finish, balance, and comfort (the handle seems to just melt into my hand) are all rather perfect in my opinion. I think the knurled jimping is a nice touch also. The sheath (I don't know if Sam made this or someone else did - but thank you, it compliments the knife very well) is also nicely designed, well put together, and esthetically appealing.

A couple of numbers, for those that might be interested:
Weight: 10 5/8 ounces
Overall Length: 10 3/8 inches
Blade - Tip to Guard: 5 1/4"
Blade Thickness at Guard: 0.234"

Rather than listen to me ineffectively gush on, here are some pictures. I ran all over the house and yard trying to find some decent light for my very novice photography skills (more like, lack thereof). I also see that I forgot to wipe the shipping oil off of the knife. So any spots, dust, etc., are my fault. My fear here is that the photos don't nearly do justice to this beauty.

Feel free to comment (ask me to remove terrible photos), add your own photos as these are delivered, and or ask questions.

Thank you again Joe and Sam for allowing me to participate in this project. Mike

That really is a hell of a serious-looking knife. I wish my forging hammer had a handle like that. :D

Congrats on your knife. Jeremy Guillaume from "8 Ball Leather" makes these sheathes.

Good looking knife/sheath. Anyone who hasn't handled a Hurak should add it to your "knife bucket list".
They really have a unique "feel" to them.

Nice knife! Nice sheath! Nice pics! Thanks for posting!

Great project!

Thank you Roger, Kevin, and Will. I appreciate the comments. Mike

Very happy that you are pleased

I love Huraks .......plain and simple :)

Congrats and thank you

I really like his designs, Mike. Joe and he were meant to work together. Everything design I see from Joe, whoever the maker, always is a delight to the hand and eye.

Best regards,

Bob

Thank you Bob. I agree completely.

And thank you Joe....for everything you do. I'm becoming quite fond of Huraks also. Mike

Thank you Bob but SAMs Hurak is all his design and it sure is a great one :)

...I want 'in-the-field' action shots. Maybe a quick video of you tackling those deer in the front yard, wrangling them down with your bullwhip, and then you running away as the police arrive and threaten to confiscate your Hurak.

...well, at least, that's likely what would be happening on MY yard, I guess. :D

Great photos, Mike - awesome knife, too. Very 'Buick Grand National', to me. All go! Not to say the design isn't sexy - it is, of course... but it's apparent from even a glance that its purposeful. Good to know you landed one of these, bud!

I just didn't quite phrase that right, Joe. It never would have occurred to me that anyone other than the maker would have designed the pieces you help promote. It was meant to mean that you have an eye for design and the makers that create such great designs - to many buyers' great benefit!

Thanks Bob

On some of the projects I do work on the design but it is more in the performance characteristics I am looking for

Thanks my friend

Pretty dang funny Matthew. I'm goofy enough to make a simulated video like that - I just need to take the time to learn to edit videos and download them in a appropriate format.

I did do some hunting the other day - but in a different environment.....

I'm sure just about everybody has seen abalone inlays and or scales but I'm guessing not everyone has actually seen an abalone.

Here's what it looks like as it would be stuck to the rocks under water.

This is its foot.

Separated from its shell.

Keeping it Hurak related.
