I have a special order for a Drop Point hunter with Sambar Stag scales and I have been having a difficult time locating material of the proper size let alone well matched pairs of nicely colored and textured stag. If anyone has a suggestion on a source, I would appreciate hearing about it. I need a set that is at least 4 1/4" x 1 3/8". 1 1/2" wide would be better as I would like to grind it as thin as possible so I can maintain as much texture as possible.
I realize that as the supplies of stag have dwindled over the last few years I may be on a wild goose chase.
If I can not find the appropriate Stag Scales for the project I'm considering possibly using a set of bone scales jigged to look like stag. What imitation stag scales do you think are the most fitting substitution for the real deal?, is there one?

Thanks

Check with Vince, VCM3 on the forums. Look in the exchange, knives for sale section. He's got a website.

Chuck and Jessica at Alpha are good people and will go the extra mile to help you. You can also see the exact set of scales you are buying on their site. If you decide on something other than genuine stag I suggest you try Plain or Amber colored Carved Stag Bone from Culpepper.

You could also consider Elk, it looks real nice an is wider and flatter than Sambar. The top knife in the pic is elk, it came from pieces more than wide enough. It is usually a little washed out in color so this is dyed with leather dye
