It's been a while since I've had time to play around with Adobe and Fireworks :)

This was a specially ordered Medium Hunter, 3/16" Stellite, 4 1/2" blade, tapered tang, desert ironwood, red spacers, mosaic pin. My customer wanted the handle to "ALMOST TOUCH THE PLUNGE" like another knife I had made for him! It was also ground on a much larger contact wheel than I normally use, resulting in a very flat hollow grind.

Here is a shot of the other side showing off more of the WOOD:eek:

Thanks for taking a look:D

Holy cow, Neil! That is stunning! It looks like a handy little camp knife (although it's almost too purty to use!). Where the heck do you find such great Ironwood?!

Man you make gorgeous knives Neil!!!
I love the grind on that blade and thats some of the most figural desert iron wood I've ever seen!
Care to share some or your ironwood finishing secrets with us grunts?? :)

Thanks!!

I think this ironwood was picked up at the Blade Show this year. I just go from table to table picking the highest contrast stuff and burls.

As far as finishing it, I start with a fresh 36 belt so it doesn't burn during initial shaping. Then I finish with a fresh 220 runing it slower for final shaping. After that I wet sand, water and 3M 220,320 then I let it dry for a few hours. I often just hit the pins with a Norax 30 belt to cut down the hand sanding time. One secret is my 3/4" radiator hose I wrap the sandpaper around for the finger gooves. The last thing I do is sand with baby oil and 400. That's IT!! Afer a day or so I apply a good coat of Renaissance Wax. I don't own a buffer so nothing I make is BUFFED :D The 400 finish brings out the detail in the wood and still provides a descent grip.

Great picks ,even better looking knives.I always find your grinds really stick out the most to me.I find them kinda Brendish.:footinmou I may catch some flak for that but I always see your blades and grinds flowing so smoothly.:)

That is one heck of a stunning knife!
That has to be the best chunk of ironwood that I've seen here.
Very impressive piece of work. Wish she were mine!

Neil,

As if you do not stress me out enough...

The more I see the more impatient I get:)

What can I say.....Again..... awesome just awesome.

Rgds,
Brendon

Listen to Neil about that radiator hose deal. It works great as a sanding block- easy to hold, contours a bit and will get into "tight" areas nicely!

Thanks again guys!!

Stumpy,

I can live with Brendish ;) That's one hell of a compliment!! I think the first time I saw a Brend, I knew I wanted to hollow grind!

John,

I'm going to start packaging and selling 5" lenghts of radiator hose :) That's one of the most important tools in my shop!! I use it on EVERY knife!!!!!!!!

Neil

Neil... This particular knife design, with the almost flat hollow grind, handle interface to cutting edge angles, supreme wood, contoured handles... your work is nothing short of genius in it's artfully deceiving simplicity.

Nobody, Cutiger,

Again, I really appreicate the compliments!! My head is swelling :)

Nobody,

I love you avitar! Great show!!!!

Neil

I have heard you are not taking orders at this time. If this is true then it is my opinion that you should refrain from posting pictures like these. It truely is cruel.:p

Looks like I need one of these to keep my Henchman company !!

Awesome Neil ! That knife is 100 % BADASS !:D
