would someone please post the link to the thread for same gawa. I looked through all the posts in shop talk and didn't find it and I don't have search capabilities.

Thanks
Bill

Are you interested in purchasing stingray skin or how to apply it on a knife handle or tsuka?

I need to find a place to purchase some. The guy that I usually get it from is out. I remember a post that had several links to suppliers in it but I can't find it at the moment.

thank you Pohan. Do thet sell the rawhide or untanned skins as well? I looked over their website and didn't see any so thought I would ask.

Bill,

Give Jeanne a call. I'm not sure as I have only ever bought skins from them that already have color to them. But I don't see why they couldn't get an untanned skin?

Pohan

Make sure you get rayskin rawhide (untanned, white looking) The tanned and dyed stuff is nice, but not what you want for a tsuka.

Thanks Stacey, I know what to get but not where to get it any longer the source that I had has dried up and I can't seem to find another with reasonable prices. I did order one skin from shadow of leaves but I am still looking for a good source with reasonable prices.

I know I have seen White stingray pelts from ostrichmarket.com. i'm not sure whether you have called them or not, but it's worth a try!

thanks everyone. Fitzo, you are right culpepper has some pretty large skins for a decent price. I'll post about the quality when they get here. Twelve by twenty odd inchesfor sixty dollars. some of the other suppliers are getting twice that for this size.

got the skins from Culpepper today. they are veru nice bright whit and 14 by 24 inches.

one thing to consider with same, size does factor, but node placement, regularity, quality of cleaning, overall skin quality (no marks, abrasions, scars)

all factor in to the grading of a skin

so you can have a grade AAA skin that is smaller than a grade 6 skin.

Exactly, These have two or three large nodes with decreasingly smaller nodes trailing off to the tail. They are bleached almost perfectly white and are very even in thickness. the nodes are pretty close to the eye holes and there is plenty of length for proper placement of the nodes on the tsuka.
