Same style, different sizes

Reminds me of the old Sesame Street segment, "one of this things just doesn't belong here..." :D

They are looking really good, Ray. I think I like the black better. I made an osage handle once, and somehow that yellow just didn't sit well with me.

NICE (as usual) work, Ray! Oddball out here, I use and like the natural color of Osage. I should try some dye to perhaps enhance the color, would be fun to see what comes out of it.

Real nice as usual Ray. Thats going to be quiet a trio. Don't know if you know it or not,but you sure are an inspiration to alot of us or me anyway. Keep posting!

+1 to natural Osage. A little patience (and sunlight) will mellow that bright yellow-orange into a really warm orange-brown color. I haven't handled a knife with it but I've made a number of whips with Osage handles and it performs really well and (I think) looks great.

I've been having a problem trying to color one of the handles. I've tried several tricks and a few I just dreamed up. Whats the recommended acid to make the old fashioned stain using steel wool. Is it Nitric?

I've got the fittings done. I'm always surprised how much time I spend making these.

Think you are looking to ebonize the wood, white vinegar and steel wool.

Don't leave us hangin' Ray :D

Eli, I keep getting distracted but actually have been working on these knives today. I've got a bunch of yard work I need to get done before the rain puts an end to it. Still have about half my trees to trim.

C'mon Ray, that's what they make "midnight oil" for! :D

Midnight oil? The well dried up about the same time the hair left. :D To wet today to do any tree trimming right now. Next move will be heading out to the shop. Turn on the coffee pot warmer and let the epoxy warm up for an hour or so. The knives should be a done deal by this time tomorrow morning.

Looking good Ray, love the shape and style.

Hey Will, good to see you back around!

Here's a picture of the 3 finished knives. I ended up putting a patina on all 3 blades. I came real close to just going with a hand rubbed finish but it just doesn't look right on my knives. When I colored the wood I tried a new way of doing it and it didn't work the way I had planned so I went with what I knew instead. Starting with the smaller knife here's the sizes and weights. 4 1/2" blade, 9" overall at 7oz. 6" blade, 11 1/4" overall at 10oz. 7" blade, 13 5/8" overall at 13oz.

Very cool Ray, as usual. You know, I just went back and looked a several of you blades in various threads, and...I didn't see a maker's mark on anything I looked at. Surely you must use one? How? Where?

Very nice Ray, all of them, but I especially like the dark handle on the largest one.
