Then Gear Failure..... minor but still failure that resulted in a small cut to my finger.

Striker gave away slight pressure and just as I started the striker blade seperated from handle...

thanks..
I own 6-8 strikers and used all extensively ... this one just gave way on first attempt to strike ESEE firekit... I then when to the HEST edge to finish the job.
I assume this is a Fluke being the blade does not look like it was in the handle material 3/16" .If you look at the handle and the top of the blade you can barely see a black spec on it that is the depth the blade was inserted into handle.

Thanks for the pics. How long did did your son have to fight to land that that monster sunfish? lol.

Reminds me that summer vacation is ticking away, and I need to get the kids out for a nature hike.

4-5 cast with a fly lure & nothing...3rd cast with grub lure and Bam .... :D
just wandering in the cool water of the creek ,having fun

I believe there was a striker issue before, and he resolved it now. Is there a possibility that is an older striker than the ones that were fixed?

I received this one less than a 3weeks ago ?
I had had no issues with my past versions.... I may trash all of them and go back to something else, have not decided yet .. they work but if there is a joint issue not worth the risk,I'll go back to the file on multitool or awl on SAK.

Those are some great pics of what looks like a really good time with you and your son! I use those GG strikers all the time and have never had one fail like that, strange.

Thanks and I agree w/you .... I been using them for a long time and never had one fail but this one I received less than a month ago and couple to my newest firekit and headed out and part way thru my 1st strike it came free from the handle

lots of creepy crawlers! love those critters especially the spiders. i feel bad for people who get freaked out by them. went for a quick hike yesterday and i had three different kinds on my arms. that's why i'm the one holding the machete and leading the way. hate to see what happens with someone else with a machete and a spider on their arm

too bad about the striker failure. i have a couple of those too but i carry back-ups, like knives. i wouldn't mind paying more for a full tang striker made by...ahem...esee :D

what is that thing that you pried with the h.e.s.t?

well if you look at the blades edge where the beetle is crawling I use the HEST edge too

I assume it is Pyrite ? if you crack it open it look's like fool's gold inside...some crazy mineral, looks like it is rusting in the White rock ....crack it open and gold sparkles, pretty neat if there easy to retrieve I always grab one...this case a pair

Texas T Thanks for sharing the Pics (Great) I thought I saw a Maine Lobster LOL Looks Like a great time spend with your Son!
