Here are three of Sams wonderful test knives for this year in Atlanta

Sam is one of my favorite artists and I look forward to seeing my friend and helping him celebrate :)

The first is W 2 with a blued guard and a fossilized walrus handle

"Merci" Roger, But I believe that the ivory fighter can not participate in the "JS"..

In the new regulation a gard is is necessary no ??

3 great looking knives but that last one, holy cow:eek::eek::eek:, simply amazing. Love everything about it. Thanks for sharing Joe!

They are all fantastic knives from one of my favourite knifemakers.

Im a huge fan of the harpoon style knives, that SL makes and especially like the first knife shown.

Thanks for posting these.

The notice on the ABS forum (although I can't find it referenced in the test and judging guidelines published on their website) stated guard or bolster...

"Effective immediately, applicants for the JS stamp must have a minimum of two knives among the five submitted with at least 6 inch blades, and all of the knives submitted must have guards/bolsters."

Seems like the first knife pictured above would meet the bolster or guard requirement (sans lugs) no?

Fantastic looking knives!

All the best, Phil

Wow!! Those knives are gorgeous! I'm a big fan of Lurquin's work

I wish him all the best in the JS judging

Thanks for sharing! :)

Great looking knives I am sure the judges will love them as well. I hope the guard won't be an issue on the first one, it my favorite out of the three.

It would be a good news, I like very much this knife also. But to have seen two others, there is a choice...

"Merci" for him, i prepare the bottle of champagne, but this year there is a lot of people....

"Wait and see" ....

Inspiring and evocative: Knives and Photography.

Guards having lugs? Unless it's changed dramatically I have scads of images of JS Test passing knives with no lugs. See here.

Good luck. I'll see you guys there sat morning pacing the floor...

Haaaaa YOURS Pictures!!!!

"Merci" Jim, I've never had an aim in my life...:(

But if one day I get to take photos that I'll find as successful as yours, I would be rather proud of me...

I look forward to seeing the photo that you are going to make with the 5 Sam's knives...

this is the first that I had heard of the "6 inch rule" but the guard/bolster rule is likely the result of some long discussion about the idea of showing up with full tang knives with just wood handle scales and no additional "metal work." I guess this is the JS version of someone trying to use the old "2-3 layer random pattern damascus" knife for MS performance testing. ;)

Beautiful knives from Sam. That first ivory one just speaks to me.

Looking forward to seeing Sam again, too.

John

Always a pleasure to see Sam's work. They are well received by most! I am certainly a fan, and count his work amongst my favorite.
