Samurai Sword curiousity

well the company that made the sword is Ei Dai En the model is F-519BK doesn't say on it where it was made just specs of the sword and date of completion

Sorry man, that's all I've found. Before you try any "heavy cutting" maybe you should get more info on what you have--good luck!

im new here but i know a little bit about katanas,so here is my 2,this sword looks to be from homemadesword.com,its where i got my 1st sword...there seems to be a secondary bevel starting about 1/16th of an inch from the ha,on katana there are no secondary bevels, just one bevel called shinogi-ha,so someone definetely sharpened it incorrectly,it will still be sharp but will lose its edge quicker, and the hamon is definetly a fake,at least the visible one, maybe if you polished the blade with 1500grit or higher you will find a real hamon but not likely, hope this helps and sorry to be so blunt

I'm sorry didn't mean to sound ungrateful I do appreciate your help so I must apologize just makes me wonder where my friend on it and what he did to it but anyways thank you again for your help :)

funny thing is he never tried to sharpen it he got it new from the store he bought it at so unless the one who forged it sharpened it incorrectly I doubt it was sharpened wrong and maybe the hamon is true not sure and there isn't a second bevel on the blade just the cutting edge ha

ok... I say what I say bc I have a few swords, one of which is sold as "martial arts grade" and is designed for cutting; I just would hate to see you try some cutting and get hurt. You should probably get as much info on the sword from your friend as possible; again, good luck.

No one has told him yet that this is not a Japanese sword but a Japanese type sword made in China. It is not folded steel,is not selectively heat treated(hamon)and I dont see what 42 and 45 degree has to do with hardness(even if ROCKWELL scale 45 rc it is only spring temper)Chances are the edge will roll over if you strike something hard like bamboo or even tatame mats.If razor sharp can you shave with it?(subjective)In theory a Japanese sword is not "razor" sharp(mythical) but as refined as the steel hardness-quality,or shape(hiraniku, clamshell or appleseed crossection)that will support this combination.
