My name is Adam and I'm completely new to the forums and to bladesmithing. I've been reading a lot of the newbie stickies and what not. Theres definitely a lot if info there. I was wondering if there are any bladesmiths in the San Diego area that would be willing to help me get started.

Try getting in touch with the California Knife Makers Assn. They have a couple branches, IIRC. There is also a good show in June/July . You definitely should go to the show, as you will meet a lot of great makers there.

I realize that I sorta misspoke in my first post. I'm really looking for a knife maker in San Diego. Not necessarily one who forges blades. I'm mostly interested in learning stock removal method first. I don't really have any specialized tools so I was thinking about learning to profile with a grinder and files.

Appreciate the info in the link.

Hello Adam,

I am about 30 minutes North of you. I'll be working in my shop tomorrow. Drop me a PM if you are interested in stopping by.

Eric

Adam welcome to the world of knifemaking!! Great desicion to seek out real time guidance from a knifemaker close to you!! You will gain so much knowledge and insight, worth every ounce of energy used to get there!
I took part in some forging lessons yesterday with local ABS journeyman smith A.C. Richards, and we talked about how short the learning curves get when you start getting real time experience.
Eric i commend you for opening up your shop to adam very cool!
